Marilyn, Thanks for the encouragement.

Marlene Rikard Mar 28, 2015 at 05:17 PM

Thank you Karen. I'll keep trying. The Lodge is not open yet but the phone menu says you can make reservations, No success yet!
Marilyn Richter Mar 28, 2015 at 06:17 PM

Marlene - should be no problem booking extra night. May is not the busy season although the weather should be fine. The area draws families in summer and motorcyclists for the big rally in August.

I'm enrolled in May 17, 2015 program and am trying to book an additional night at K Bar Lodge. The automated menu at lodge phone says mailbox is full and I have been unable to reach a real person. Has anyone been able to talk to someone at Lodge?

I was there last Sept. I don't know that the lodge is open through the winter. I know some of the places are just now starting up. I had 2 campers here in KS who work at Crazy Horse every year and they were here a few days ago heading North. That would explain the full mailbox and no one answering the phone. I would just keep trying. It is a wonderful lodge and the tour you have chosen is great. You will love every second of it. I hope that you get the tour guide Karen. She was raised in the area and adds a great deal that most would not know. Have fun!

This will be my first Road Scholar trip and I have a few questions and hope that some of you more experienced Road Scholar participants can point me in the right direction:

1. Of the date offerings for this program, what is the best time to go, weatherwise? I want to avoid snow and extreme heat.

2. Is there a way that I can fill out all necessary forms online, rather than printing them out and sending them to Road Scholar via US mail? I see a pdf for registering for this program, but it seems like you have to print it and then send it via US mail.

3. Where do I find the personal information form that is referred to?

Maybe all of this is somewhere on this Road Scholar site. If so, I'd appreciate being pointed to it.

1. I went in August 2013, and the weather was fine. I don't think the program is offered in cold weather. Does South Dakota ever experience extreme heat? 2. I've never mailed anything to Road Scholar by snail-mail. I've attended ten or twelve or so programs and have always done everything online. 3. I can't remember now but am thinking that the answer may be in email you receive after you've registered.
Natalie Maynor Nov 09, 2014 at 08:49 PM

I meant to add that you click on "enroll here" to register onine. You choose options like double or single and then click on "add to cart."
Ruth Rothschild Nov 09, 2014 at 09:27 PM

Thanks for your response, Natalie. It's good to know that I can do everything online. So, once I click on "enroll here" and add the program to my cart, am I understanding correctly that Road Scholar will then send me an email with further information/instructions, including the participant information form? Re: South Dakota experiening extreme heat: I googled the average temperatures for May - August. May's average temps are about 50 - 60 degrees and by the middle of the summer the average is about 80, so nothing too extreme.
Natalie Maynor Nov 10, 2014 at 07:53 AM

Yes, that's pretty much how it works. I think there's an online link for the form you have to fill it, but I don't remember the details. Maybe you see that link after you've enrolled.
Ruth Rothschild Nov 10, 2014 at 11:09 AM

Thanks, Natalie. Once I decide which date I want to enroll for, I'll keep an eye out for the online link. I'm really looking forward to participating in this and other Road Scholar programs. I've heard and read good things about Road Scholar, in general, both from reading reviews of various programs I'm interested in and also in talking with a number of people who have participated.

Patricia Albright Aug 10, 2014 at 03:39 PM

My sister and I are coming from Detroit and would like to share a shuttle. Just making our plane reservations and will post our arrival in Rapid City for the Sept 14-20 Mt. Rushmore program.

Arriving on Sept 14 at 3:06 in Rapid City. Would love to share a shuttle.
Diane Behling Sep 08, 2014 at 12:22 AM

Pat - I'm arriving for that same program and will be in Rapid City over night Saturday and available any time Sunday. Would love to share a shuttle or taxi, hopefully not too late in the day. Arlene is my sister, so we are two sister sets - would be fun to connect.

Gladys Kleinknecht Jul 14, 2014 at 08:05 PM

To Paula Tamura I will be arriving in Rapid City, Sept 21st 12:03. Delta Flight 4699. I'd be delighted to share a shuttle. Gladys Kleinknecht
Paula Tamura Aug 11, 2014 at 11:55 AM

Thank you, Gladys, but Delta changed my itinerary, and I won't be coming into RC until 3:25. Paula T.

Paula Tamura Jul 14, 2014 at 05:28 PM

I will be arriving for the 9/21 departure around 11:30 and my friend will be there around noon. If anyone else is arriving at the same time we would be happy to share the shuttle ride. Feel free to email me.
Jessica Romer Jul 14, 2014 at 05:33 PM

You will have the time of your life, I hope you have our tour guide Penny she was fantastic, and all I can say dont worry about the shuttle, I did and when I got to Rapid city there were plenty of people checking in for the shuttle, th eonly suggestion is to ask the coordinator when other people are arriving on their flights, you will probably meet up in your connection to Rapid city as it is a rinky dinky airport, and delays unless your drivin g of course. But you will have the time of your life. Just an idea the lodge i didnt care for much, bring your own sturdy pillow if tyou can.
