Anyone else out there attending the October 2015 Columbia Gorge hiking trip? Would love to "know" a few before we start!

Hi Barbara, I will going in October. This will be my third RS trip and my second hike. I need to buy rain gear but do not know what type or cost range. Does anyone have guidance? I will be flying in from Illinois. I look forward to meeting you and other interestin fellow hikers!! Mike Moseley

Hi Mike,

Hi Mike, glad you are joining this hike! I have Northface HyVent 2.5L rain pants . I have NO IDEA what that really means. They just seem to be very lightweight, thus preventing getting too hot. Those I purchased at Campmore. I have various rain tops from REI. It sounds like the key is to layer. Can't wait for October! Barbara

Can we reserve a river side room, with view of the river and bridge ? Or, does RS book a block of rooms, and we are ltd to those ?
Vicki Costi Mar 04, 2014 at 05:26 PM

We were assigned rooms last year. Although we did have view of river and bridge, the noise from the trains kept me awake most nights. Of course my husband slept thru them. The ones that had rooms on the other side said they did not hear them. We didn't have much time to sit out on the balcony. It was a marvelous trip. Enjoy!

A friend and I are enrolled in two programs back to back--Hiking the Spectacular Columbia River Gorge (Jun 8-14) and Hiking Mount Hood and Cascade Mountain Lakes (June 15-21). We would like to trave directly from the Columbia River Gorge to Mount Hood. We would like to share costs and hitch a ride. Anyone interested?

Hi, I will be taking my first Road Scholar trip October 2013. Anyone else out there going this fall?
Barbara Clark Apr 27, 2015 at 06:13 PM

Barbara Clark Apr 27, 2015 at 06:15 PM

Laura Roettiger Apr 27, 2015 at 10:09 PM

Barbara, I loved this trip and I am sure you will too! I just booked my third hiking trip with RS which I will be taking this October.

My husband and I will be attending. This is our 1st offical RoadScholar program. We are celebrating our 50th anniversary. Last year we did the rim to rim in the grand canyon and are looking forward to this one.

I'm looking forward to my 1st program with RoadScholar and this 1st trip to the Pacific Northwest. I have registered as a single participant but am open to sharing accommodations with another single (female) hiker.
Sarah Armstrong May 31, 2013 at 02:28 PM

Which trip are you taking... June or October?

Mary Figg Oct 30, 2012 at 05:39 PM

Having participated in this program in October 2012, I highly recommend it for the hikes, the scenery, and, accommodations. But, mostly, for the superior guides, Ken and Steve, who's extra attention to detail made the trip worthwhile.
Helen Driver Jan 25, 2013 at 04:51 PM

Anyone from San Diego area attending this hike?
Kathryn Salm Mar 30, 2013 at 08:29 AM

I live in Carlsbad. Am flying to Portland on 6/15.
