EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Wondering if it's possible for a person to find a glass of wine on night #1 in Rapid City. Howard Johnson Express doesn't have a restaurant, and "no additional beverages for purchase" at the dinner venue. It will have been a long day of travel. I'm on the June 7 trip.
Carolyn Schuler May 29, 2015 at 09:58 AM

Get yourself downtown; you can find the Alex Johnson Hotel that has a nice bar and restaurant.
Camilla Lee May 29, 2015 at 11:39 AM

Carolyn, Thanks for the info.
Beverly Brown Jun 04, 2015 at 10:36 PM

How far is downtown? Can you walk or is there public transportation?
Carolyn Schuler Jun 04, 2015 at 10:46 PM

You will probably want to get a cab; get a map of Rapid City and see how far downtown is if you are the Howard Johnson's. I can't remember how far it is but think it's a bit far to walk.

I just signed up for the July 19th trip. I'm also a widow and have found Road Scholar a great way for a single woman to travel
Beverly Brown Jun 03, 2015 at 07:44 PM

Karla, Looking forward to the trip on the 19th, too.

Lillian Oberjohn May 09, 2015 at 10:57 PM

I am seriously thinking of signing up for this trip. My question is for those who have already taken it: What was the size of your group?
Cathy Rankin May 15, 2015 at 12:54 PM

group was about 40 people the group size was just right because you had plenty of people to talk to yet not to many to be overwhlming. this is a great trip

I'm excited about going on this "On the Road" trip June 7th. I've done a lot of international travel, but have never been Out West. Seems ridiculous. Looking forward to mountains. This is a first for me, traveling solo. Hope someone sits with me in the restaurant.
Joan Staby May 09, 2015 at 10:20 AM

I went solo on this trip last Sept. Everyone was most gracious about including me. Enjoy. It is a fantastic trip.
Camilla Lee May 09, 2015 at 09:52 PM

Joan, That's nice to know. Thanks so much. This is such an adventure.

I'm thinking about the July 19 trip. I am a single teacher traveling from the east coast. Anyone going on this trip or has anyone gone on this trip and can give any feedback?
Marylee McGregor Apr 15, 2015 at 07:22 PM

Beverly, I did this program 2 years ago and loved it. I also live on the east coast, and this was an entirely new part of the country for me. I will warn you that you cover a lot of ground, and spend a lot of time on the motor coach, so be prepared for that. I "took one afternoon off" in Grand Teton and just sat in the lodge and enjoyeed the view! Don't know if you've traveled with Road Scholar before, but I've always found my travel companions very welcoming to us single travelers.
Beverly Brown Apr 15, 2015 at 08:08 PM

thanks for the information. I haven't traveled with Road Scholar before but it sounds great for a single person to travel, especially some place I've never been to before.
Marylee McGregor Apr 15, 2015 at 08:28 PM

Absolutely! I've taken 11 trips (some were fairly close to home, but one was to Malta) and am very happy with RS's many opportunities for travel as a single woman.
Susan Whittaker Apr 28, 2015 at 06:45 PM

Hi Beverly. I'm also a single traveler going on the July 19th tour also. This will be my third Road Scholar tour. The first two were excellent. I lived most of my life on the East Coast but now reside in Phoenix. This should be a very scenic trip.
Beverly Brown Apr 28, 2015 at 07:02 PM

Hi Susan, I'm glad I won't be the only single traveler on the trip. I'm looking forward to it, especially since I've never been to theWestern US.
Susan Whittaker Apr 30, 2015 at 11:09 AM

The Western US is awesome. I'm looking forward to seeing more. I'll see you there.

Lynne Harris May 26, 2015 at 10:20 PM

I am also going on those dates. Single and 77 but healthy and active. Looking forward to the trip.

Marvin Singleton Apr 02, 2015 at 09:21 PM

Looking forward to exploring the Parks on the June 7 trip.
Camilla Lee May 12, 2015 at 07:18 AM

I'm going on this June 7th trip also. Being from Rhode Island, I'm excited about seeing mountains.
