SHUTTLE: Aurport to Hilton Lafayette
After just talking with them at 337-235-6111 to try and pre-book pick-up at the airport on Mon Mar 23, the instructed me to use the Hilton phone located near the luggage carousel, to call, and a driver will be dispatched to the airport for pick up on ARRIVALS level. Only a 5- minute drive. Looking forward to escaping the record brrrrrr cold temps near Toronto, Canada. Has been lowest temp weather in history here in the north. NOT bringing my snowshoes with me! ¿¿¿¿¿¿

Thanks for the tip.

Phone at airport did NOT work to connect to any hotel listed at the Customer Care Centre so make sure you have phone number upon arrival, call. They will come in about 20 minutes.

Now that I have my packet, I see I can try to find a roommate. This is my first RoadScholar trip, I'm from San Francisco, and am not sure what else to say.

Great working with you on the tile grouting! Hope you do MORE trips with rockin' Road Scholar.
Laura Mezirka Apr 06, 2015 at 11:44 PM

I had fun. It was a great group, and if I need to lay tile again, I'll know a bit more going in.

Coming from near Toronto, ON in Canada and will be my first time with Habitat for Humanity. Any special shoes or hard hat needed?
Diana Mendenhall Jan 22, 2015 at 01:30 AM

Work boots if you have them, otherwise sturdy closed toed shoes, work gloves are helpful. If hard hats are needed the affiliate will supply them. Looks like we will be working om

Thx for info. Will wear my hiking boots and bring work gloves. Should be a rewarding experience.just back from gardening my BFF's garden in Dana Point, CA. Wonderful warm weather. Now back to the Canadian brrrrrrrrrrrr! ¿¿

I am finding the travel cost from CA to LA VERY expensive with some flights more than the program itself! Any ideas, suggestions, comments?
Diana Mendenhall Jan 11, 2015 at 08:36 PM

Where do you live in California? Have you checked out the Southwest flights. When we traveled to New Orleans doing Hurricane Katrina rebuilding projects several team members used Southwest airlines.
Rosemary Anderson Jan 12, 2015 at 09:46 AM

Hello Diana-so good to ehar from someone in CA that is also going! I am very much looking forward t the trip - I live in Santa Cruz area and the flights to Lafayette (and the times) were really expensive adn did not get me in in time for the Monday orientation. I did check out Southwest, but New Orleans is a 2+ hour drive to Lafayette so there is the time and expense to rent a car. Do you have your flights yet?
Laura Mezirka Jan 21, 2015 at 10:18 PM

I'm coming from San Francisco, and also hunting for flights that work for me. I'm thinking I might fly in Sunday for an extra day of rest. I'm going to call Road Scholars to ask about their travel arrangements. Now I'll try Southwest, too. Thanks, Diana
Rosemary Anderson Jan 22, 2015 at 12:01 AM

Hello Laura, southwest only flys to. New Orleans which is 2+ hours from Lafayette. I did not have flexibility with my dates, so I went with flights through American cost $598 but the times were so much more reasonable and fit with my schedule. Look forward to meeting you in March!
Laura Mezirka Jan 22, 2015 at 11:28 PM

Looks like I'll be arriving on Monday. Since I'll be going to New Orleans after, I'll be flying round trip to New Orlean, using Greyhound and a Lafayette city bus for the rest of the trip.
Laura Mezirka Jan 22, 2015 at 11:35 PM

Oops. Meant to add, I had to take a Greyhound last year, due to scheduling, and found it pretty tolerable. You can bring your own food, avoid long waits, taking shoes off, and so forth. It will give me a chance to see things on the ground. My daughter lives in New Orleans so I planned this as a two-in-one trip.
Rosemary Anderson Jan 24, 2015 at 12:09 AM

Sounds like that worked well for you - I think this is going to be a great trip!
Laura Mezirka Feb 16, 2015 at 09:58 PM

I won't be making it for Sunday, as the city buses don't run then. Now I got my packet and find out the hotel shuttle services the bus station! I didn't know hotel shuttles did that.
