I've been watching my snail-mail for the confirmation which I thought the program provider, NW Discoveries, had indicted we'd receive sometime this week. It never came, so I emailed them to double-check that the shuttle would in fact be at the Portland airport on Oct. 4. I received this reply: "I have you on our airport shuttle list; we look forward to seeing you on the program! --Mark Fitzsimons, Registrar, NW Discoveries - Road Scholar, 503-756-7534." Thought I'd share this, for anybody else who was expecting to take the shuttle. Looks like it WILL be waiting for us. :-)

Thanks for the info I was waiting for confirmation too! I am traveling with my mother and both coming from Wisconsin. Look forward to meeting everyone!

What time does it leave the airport?
Deborah S Oct 02, 2015 at 06:19 PM

2 p.m. Here are the details I received: "At pickup time a large van, unmarked, with a big black roof rack will arrive. Pickup will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, at Portland Airport-PDX; Meet on sidewalk, ground level, outside baggage claim next to “Alaska” sign on terminal wall & vehicles exit. Pickup day problems call 503-524-9192." My flight reaches Portland at 11 a.m., so I'll be killing time for a while. See you there!

This is my first program. I'm a solo traveler. Flying to Portland on Oct. 4 and catching the van. Looking forward to meeting fellow participants. Looks like I may be needing the rain poncho I bought especially for this trip. Coming from drought-stricken Texas, I won't mind at all if it rains a lot! :-)

Hi, Claudia. Looking forward to meeting you. I've been through Oregon on the Amtrak train, twice, but this is my first time to spend time in that beautiful state.

Dorothy Parrish Jul 08, 2015 at 07:56 PM

I have just enrolled in this program and will be driving from San Jose, CA.
Deborah S Sep 22, 2015 at 07:31 PM

I look forward to meeting you, Dorothy. Will your drive take you through the areas that have burned in the recent California fires? I hope you have no trouble on your trip up.
Dorothy Parrish Sep 22, 2015 at 09:17 PM

Thank you for the good wishes. I don't think I will encounter any problems. I will take two days, staying in Roseburg Or. on the way up .

Looks like a beautiful drive up I-5. Hard to beat a good road trip. Safe travels, and see you in Oregon. :-)

This is my first program. I am a solo traveler. It would be fun to meet members of this group before arriving. : )
Cherie Setteducate Apr 13, 2015 at 05:49 PM

Jean, did you already take this trip? How was it? I am going in October of '15 with my mother!
Jean B Apr 14, 2015 at 01:12 PM

Cherie, I took this trip in October 2013. It was great. The accomodations were very comfortable and the leaders were top notch. It rained a lot so do bring good rain gear. We hiked 3-5 miles per day on some wet, muddy trails so a walking stick was helpful. On most days, there was a shuttle available to shorten the walking if you were tired. I would recommend this program without any reservations at all.
