I plan to arrive at San Francisco airport Sunday, March 22 around 11 am, rent a car, drive to Santa Cruz for the night, and generally explore the area a bit before the program starts. My plane leaves San Francisco at 3:30 pm Saturday, March 26. If anyone would be interested in sharing this schedule, please comment below.

We are looking forward to making new friends and seeing a beautiful part of our country.

This is the first I will have attended. Looking forward to the experience.

We thought it was one of the more wonderful of the 17 Elderhostels we've attended. The program, food and setting were great. The rooms were spartan but adequate. Loved every minute.

Did you stay at the Hidden Valley Inn? I am trying to find out what amenities, like hand lotion and conditioner, I should expect will be stocked. Any information would be appreciated.

My wife and I attended this program about 7 or 8 years ago. We were overpowered by the smell of bleach when we entered our shabby room with an entry door that would not lock, and all night we swatted mosquitoes that flew in through a large hole in the exterior wall.

We left the next morning. I've attended over 20 programs, and this is the only one that was so substandard. I can't understand why it continues to be offered. BEWARE !!!

This program has one review written by a participant who attended in 2009. The following was extracted from the review: "Hidden Valley Institute is very nice. Rooms simple but clean; food is homemade on-site and very good; atmosphere is casual and friendly."

We were housed in primitive space an hour's drive from Monterey. Most of what we saw of Monterey was a bus drive past the homes of the wealthy in nearby towns; almost nothing of Monterey. I have already protested to Road Scholar management.
