See our Small Group programs.

ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

I am booked on the May 23-June 8, 2014 trip. Any other solo travelers on this trip? My husband wasn't interested so I am going by myself.

Lois Bizak Mar 12, 2014 at 03:45 PM

While deciding how many pounds of US currency I could unobtrusively carry, I thought I'd check with Holbrook Travel to see if the larger M/V Santa Cruz would accept credit cards. Natalie Svedas emailed the good news that Visa, MC, AmEx, and Diners are accepted. Hooray!

Is a wet suit necessary for April 18 trip. I plan to spend a lot of tie in the water. Thanks
NOELLE SIMMONS Mar 11, 2014 at 07:32 AM

Due to the Humbolt Current, the water is cold and a wet suit is recommended. Usually the ships have them to rent (much easier than trying to pack).

I just booked the Oct 8 departure at the 'new' higher prices--but have requested a non-smoking/low maintenance roommate. anyone interested? I'm a very active retiree--DH can't go with me on this trip. Thanks.
Todd Betterton Mar 03, 2014 at 05:22 PM

Hello Ellen...We are a fun bunch of 8 from Reno NV who are booked on those dates...glad to have you along!
Ellen Marks Mar 04, 2014 at 08:52 AM

greetings from murrells inlet! get another of your 'fun bunch' to come along--i need a fun roommate as DH cannot make this trip!
Andrea Gordon Apr 13, 2014 at 09:19 AM

Hello Ellen and Todd - 2 Canadians from the Toronto/Hamilton area will be joining you.
Ellen Marks Apr 13, 2014 at 10:59 AM

great--looking forward to meeting you all and learning about your beautiful city--I'm interested in vacationing in Toronto next year!
Todd Betterton Apr 13, 2014 at 11:16 AM

Hi all...looking forward to this trip and meeting everyone...Ellen if I find a single that wants to go I will let you know!

Judy Goble Mar 01, 2014 at 12:31 PM

Road Scholar just cancelled my August 15th trip and I see on the web site single supplement for that date went up $800! What's up with that? Can they do that?
Todd Betterton Mar 01, 2014 at 09:24 PM

They had no choice, they cancelled for the same reason they cancelled our Oct 3rd trip - They had to change boats...something happened with the Yolita and they had to reschedule on another boat...In our case Road Scholar has been very good about communicating, rescheduling, honoring the original price, and even absorbing airline change fees for those in our group who had already booked flight...Altogether BRILLIANT customer service in an unforseen circumstance!
Graham Loynd Mar 04, 2014 at 10:35 AM

We are just back from this trip. All I'll say is that the changes were done pretty late, and not all were done smoothly. So I am glad to hear that ours was a bit of an aberration from RS's usual excellent service.
Susan Smith Mar 12, 2014 at 07:03 PM

We are going April 18 and also have had changes made to itinerary due to Yolita II not being in service. Were the problemmatic changes in the Galapagos portion of the trip? Hopefully they get this smoothed out before we go! This will be my first Road Scholar trip.

Roger Stafford Feb 21, 2014 at 02:59 PM

Roger and Frances Stafford are going on the Mar 21 to Apr 6 trip. We would like to hear from anyone going on the same trip.
Nola Radcliffe Mar 09, 2014 at 08:30 PM

We are also on the 3/21 trip; getting into Quito a day in advance to acclimate. Allen & Nola Radcliffe, Aiken, SC

Mark Rauch Feb 20, 2014 at 10:04 PM

There is not much info about currency in the program materials. Are US dollars OK on the boats in the Galapagos Islands??
Graham Loynd Feb 21, 2014 at 02:52 PM

Ecuador, including Galapagos, runs completely on US dollars. There's no other currency. I'm here in Peru now, Soles are the currency, but you can easily spend US dollars.

Roger Stafford Feb 19, 2014 at 08:12 PM

I am on the Mar 21 to Apr 6 trip. I was led to expect rain showers most days in Galapagos, and 1/2 time in Cusco & MP - can anyone verify? Is anyone including some "dress up" clothes?
NOELLE SIMMONS Feb 20, 2014 at 08:27 AM

Just an FYI - can't comment on the wex as we went in May but re the 'dress up' clothes everyone on our trip wore what I would call "casual Friday attire' in the business world-no jeans.
