Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Suggestions for future travelers on this trip. Be sure to take the following: Binoculars, trekking poles, Keens or other good water shoes, slippers to wear on the boat (you can't wear your land and water shoes on the boat), Immodium, altitude medication, US cash (we were able to make all purchases in US$ but very few using CC), cash for wetsuit rentals and drinks on boat. Also recommend checking out your cabin on the boat - Does it have fire extinguisher? Is the AC unit working properly - check for mold under AC unit (Cabin6 on Yolita II has defective condensate drain and mold!).

we were on the May 5th trip & found the weather during the our adventure to be quite variable, although not that cold, but having said this, it is all about layering. Make SURE you bring some warm tops as in warm sweater or as I brought my down sweater which was worn with a zip long sleeve & even a vest. You wont be sorry. I did use a hat once, but again it was warmer overall.

I just learned from Natalie Svedas at Holbrook Travel that your "bar bill" at the end of the trip on the small ship Galaven is payable in CASH. They do not accept credit cards. So, if you plan to have beer or wine with your meals, or some cocktails during the cruise, be sure to bring enough cash. She told me: "The average cost of a glass wine on the boat is around $6. Beer is usually around $3.00 or less. Cocktails can be anywhere from $5 and up."
Beer is usually around $3.00 or less.

We were on the Yolita II. Wine was not available by the glass - only by the bottle - $35 and up. We had to pay by cash.

yes - but you buy "your" bottle, and they recork the unused wine, and you can have it at your next meal. With a low-volume bar such as that, that is much preferable than having them pour a glass out of a bottle that may have been uncorked 3 weeks ago. Pretty reasonable prices, in my opinion, considering the monopolistic situation.

Thanks, Jann. That's very useful to know. We may through an extra layer and maybe some gloves into the mix. Do you or does anyone know if there is wireless at the hotels?

Fellow travelers on the June 23 departure: My husband (Rick) has been keeping up with the weather forecasts for the cities on our itinerary, and I wanted to be sure that you are aware that the lows in Yucca and Cusco have been running in the mid-30's Fahrenheit. It will be winter there after all, but those lows are at least 10 degrees below anything shown in Road Scholars' printed material, and have somewhat changed how I plan to pack.

Does anyone know about length of time to get through customs in miami on trip home?

There was an article about problems with customs wait times in yesterday's Wall Street Journal Personal Journal section, did you see that? Sounds like Miami is one of the airports with wait time issues, and wait time is up from last year. The article had an accompanying graph, which I interpreted as showing an average wait time of about 45-50 minutes for the North Terminal and about 30-35 for the South, but longest waits stretching far longer (although worse for non-citizens.)

We did see the same article and wondered if any recent travelers could add some info. We are trying to decide whether to spend the night in miami or be picked up at the airport and wonder what the odds are of giving our driver a ballpark pick up time.

Don't know about these articles, but we were on the June 2 red-eye return from Lima to Miami. As airline retirees we were flying stand-by our of Miami. We had planned to stand-by for a flight at 11:30 allowing the correct connecting time for international flights, but ended up being able to make a flight out of Miami at 10:30. So we obviously encountered no problems with delays in customs. If you are making your own arrangements for flights out of Miami, make sure you allow the correct connecting time - Holbrook travel can inform you of that time.

Hi Ellen. We'll be visiting relatives in the Miami area and then depart for Quito on Sat., June 22, AA-947 @ 7:35pm. Upon arrival, we've prepaid for transportation to the hotel on a VIATOR shared shuttle. The cost was $78 for 2 adults and we printed out a Pre-paid voucher. You can find them on the WEB. In Lima, for the return to Miami, I figure we can share the cost of transportation with others who may be on our same departing flight; otherwise, we'll just take a cab from the hotel. We depart Lima on July 9, AA-2142 @ 7:30am.

Hi Robert,
My husband Joe and I may be on your flight. Are you coming in from Miami on the American Airline? We plan to use the following day to recuperate also, so venturing out in the afternoon or getting together for dinner would be nice.
