FYI--Oct. 16 Survey people: According to many, le Grand Theatre de Bordeaux is a spectacular building. It is not far from out hotel, and we have nothing scheduled for the evening of Oct. 24, so I bought a ticket to the ballet. There are still more seats available.

Russell, I will be on flight DL 8517. Maybe we can visit while we wait for the plane to take off. I know nothing about jazz clubs. Our stay in Paris is very brief, so there wont' be much time to explore, but that first evening after dinner looks pretty good for taking in the Marais.

Gordon Smith Sep 18, 2014 at 08:21 AM

I will be flying Delta from Atlanta on October 16 and will arrive in Paris at 8:10. Is there another participant on that flight?
Russell Baker Sep 19, 2014 at 01:17 PM

Think we are on the same flight, Gordon. Perhaps we could get together at the international gate.
Gordon Smith Sep 20, 2014 at 09:04 AM

I'll wear some Roadscholar identification. Maybe we can compare notes as we wait for the plane to board the plane.

I'll be doing the October 16 trip and would like to do some of the jazz clubs in Paris. I'll do the research but am particularly interested in Le Caveau des Oubliettes and La Chope des Puces (Espace Django Reinhardt and Caveau de la Huchette

Have signed up for the September 2014 trip. Wondering if anyone else is departing from San Francisco.

Have signed up for the April/May 2015 trip. Like to hear how the 2014 trips went and like to hear from new 2015 sign-ups. Caryl Mikrut -Chicago area

Carol, it was great. We went a couple of days early and used Rick Steves book for Paris. Hightly recommend them but got maps and etc. from tour for each town we needed one to do personal exploring.
Ana Sweet Aug 07, 2014 at 08:23 PM

It is a busy tour. Do not take a huge suitcase. Casual clothes were fine everywhere. Good shoes since surface often uneven. Husband says he remembers the food and wine. France is hugely expensive and the people all over were nice and helpful.f

Hi, Caryl. You’ve picked a fine program. I went this past April/May. If you’ve never been to France before, this is a wonderful overview of the various regions. I totally concur with Ana: the schedule is demanding, and there is a lot of walking on uneven surfaces, so be prepared. Lunches tend to be large and long-lasting. You’ll be on your own for a surprising number of dinners, but you might be so full you don’t feel like eating in a restaurant. Feel free to buy some cheese and bread local grocery stores to tide yourself over until breakfast. The tour definitely has a wine theme. You’ll do a lot of tasting, and wine is often included in the meals. Don’t assume that you’ll be in a group of wine snobs: no one in our group was a wine aficionado. Finally, be prepared for the possibility of a lot of cloudy weather and some rain. Have fun!

Anyone taking United flight 915 on April 24th (from Dulles to Paris)? If so, I'd like to meet you in Dulles and (when we get to Paris) go together to join the group transfer bus.
Ana Sweet Apr 15, 2014 at 12:04 PM

Hope you meet someone. Bob and I will already be in Paris and meet up with the group at the airport. Really looking forward to meeting everyone.

Please be aware that this change (among others) of the departure city for the September trip means that you will not be able to take a morning flight home. Caen is about a three hour drive from Paris. While preferring to stay in Colmar and Bayeux over the new cities, it is most disappointing to be told that we won't know final details until a month before the trip. We prefer making our own travel arrangements and hope others haven't booked a flight that they can't make from the new departure city.
