My husband and I will be on the October trip. Any tips regarding what to pack in general, and for that time of year in particular, would be most appreciated. We were on one previous Road Scholar trip last summer, and were extremely pleased with the way Road Scholar handled everything, especially when unexpected circumstances arose!

I am going on the October trip. Will I need the local currency in Turkey? A guidebook says American currency is widely accepted in Turkey. This will be my second trip on the Aegean Odyssey. I met so many wonderful, interesting singles on the first trip so I was happy to find another program. I splurged on the first trip and ended up with a balcony. This time I'll only have a porthole...am a little concerned but there are plenty of nice places to sit and read.

I am looking forward to the April trip. I have been on a couple of road scholar trips but this will be my first as a single. I appreciate the currency information. It was very helpful.

I took this trip last September also. It was wonderful. I read somewhere that the EU requires credit cards to be chipped. Mine was and I had no problem using it. I took both credit cards and cash. It is a good idea to buy some euros before you go. I hope you enjoy the trip as much as I did.

I'm getting ready for the April trip. I could use some advice about how to bring money. Does my credit card need a pin and chip? Do I bring cash? Debit card? I've read so much about this issue that now I'm confused.
Molly DeMatteo Mar 11, 2014 at 07:36 PM

I was on that trip last September-it exceeded all my expectations!!!! I had your same worries-- my credit card worked fine-only needs a pin if you withdraw cash. My debit card worked fine also, of course with the pin. Be sure to let your bank/credit union know ahead that you will be out of the country so they don't freeze you out! There were ample ATM machines to get cash in the local currency. Road Scholar guides were very helpful in pointing out where the machines are located. Enjoy your trip!!!

Thank you so much! I appreciate the reassurance.

My wife and I will be on the trip this Sept, and were wondering how many EUs to bring. Any thoughts?

Alice Soininen Feb 28, 2014 at 11:40 AM

My husband, Tom, and I just signed up for this trip (September). We live in northern Vermont (NEK) and are looking forward to hearing from others who will be traveling with us. We will leave from Boston.
Helen Disenhaus Mar 03, 2014 at 09:39 AM

Alice and Tom, What a wonderful coincidence! My husband Brian and I are going too and look forward to seeing you again. I've sent you a separate message.
Jim OBrien May 16, 2014 at 12:33 PM

My wife and I live in CT, also have a home in Southern VT, and will be on this trip on Sept. We are looking forward to it, and it will be our first Road Scholar trip. Have you traveled with them before?
Helen Disenhaus May 18, 2014 at 05:31 PM

Jim,

I have not been on a previous RS trip, but I know a couple of people who have been on their trips, both in North America and in Europe. They said everything went very smoothly. (I live in DC now, but I lived in CT many years ago, and I have a sister in Montpelier.)

I will be arriving in Istanbul a day early (April 12) . Anyone else arriving early?

Bonnie Rogers Oct 21, 2013 at 12:30 PM

I just signed up for the Sept. trip and will be flying out of Detroit. So good to know other singles are signing up. I'm also glad to know about the yoga!
