Do people take their cell phones and, if so, how do they avoid large fees?
Molly DeMatteo Sep 13, 2014 at 11:33 PM

Lots of us took ours on the trip I was on last year. You can get short term data, calling, and or texting plans from your carrier; the ship has wi- fi which is sometimes slow and erratic. It do- able, and you can always put your phone on "airplane mode" and still take pictures and know what time it is! Be sure to take a European plug adaptor so you can charge it.

Has anyone gotten the CDC recommended shots? Since we will not be going out into the countryside, I'm wondering if they are really necessary. My trip leaves in October.
Glen Elliott Aug 27, 2014 at 04:20 AM

Hadn't checked CDC website, but just got flu &
Glen Elliott Aug 27, 2014 at 04:24 AM

DPT. Hadn't thought about MMR or hrpA. Taking 2 bags of cough drops; got a cold on 3rd day of my last trip.

Deb G Aug 24, 2014 at 07:04 AM

Good. Thank you. That answers my question.

Deb G Aug 23, 2014 at 06:03 PM

Thanks. I've traveled with other groups and there was always someone waiting with a sign outside customs. Didn't want to assume, tnough.

Deb G Aug 23, 2014 at 10:37 AM

My first trip with RS...I am confused regarding transfer from airport on arrival at Ataturk airport. In "travel details" it appears to advise on methods to arrange your own transportation; in information packet, it seems to indicate meeting as a group outside customs and transferring to Armada Hotel, I am assuming together. If I am traveling as per RS flight arrangements, arriving Oct, 15 2014, what should I plan to do to get to the hotel?
Grace Rintzler Aug 23, 2014 at 11:18 AM

If RS made your flight reservations and you are arriving on the normal date, I believe that transfers from airport to the hotel are included in your 'package' and you do not have to make your own arrangements. I would suggest that you phone RS and ask that they explain the specifics. My husband and I traveled with RS last summer (our first with them) and found them to be extremely helpful and efficient in dealing with all arrangements. I'm sure that they will be able to clarify this for you.
Deb G Aug 23, 2014 at 11:56 AM

Thank you for your quick response. I will contact RS on Monday when offices open.
Martha Blair Aug 23, 2014 at 02:09 PM

This will be my third International trip. RS always books for me and there has always been someone waiting for me with a sign. It's so easy.. I wouldn't think of going on my own.
Glen Elliott Aug 24, 2014 at 02:15 AM

In my packet, directions from the airport to the hotel follow a heading: "For participants NOT taking the group transfer:"

On September trip, anyone else from Reston, Va, or Kansas? Wondering what kind of camera equipment to bring, not sure my $80 HP will do, but don't want to spend $$$$ for pro equipment.

My husband and I will be on the October trip. Any tips regarding what to pack in general, and for that time of year in particular, would be most appreciated. We were on one previous Road Scholar trip last summer, and were extremely pleased with the way Road Scholar handled everything, especially when unexpected circumstances arose!

Martha Blair Jul 07, 2014 at 03:03 PM

I am going on the October trip. Will I need the local currency in Turkey? A guidebook says American currency is widely accepted in Turkey. This will be my second trip on the Aegean Odyssey. I met so many wonderful, interesting singles on the first trip so I was happy to find another program. I splurged on the first trip and ended up with a balcony. This time I'll only have a porthole...am a little concerned but there are plenty of nice places to sit and read.
