I'm arriving this Saturday, due to flight times, for the Sunday start of the next session. Anyone else arriving Saturday?

How much of the Grand Canyon views do you see as compared to views from the South Rim?
Terry Wangsness Aug 10, 2015 at 09:51 PM

Hi James, The North Rim is totally different than the South Rim, for one it 's much quieter, not as scenic as the South Rim, at least to me. I think the views are more spectacular on the South Rim, however I have hiked to the bottom of the South Rim to Phantom Ranch at least six times, my heart and soul is in it. I have been to the North Rim once just on this particular tirp, though beautiful not the same. It's quieter, the South Rim has tons of people going up and down, taking photos at the top. Bright Angel trail is like grand central station, packed with people. For hiking, the South Kaibab is much more beautiful, less traveled and pretty spectacular scenery. Hopes this helps. This is a wonderful trip though, I've done it before.

I've only been to the North Rim once before - as a child when my parents took us - and am looking forward to the return visit. My recollection is that North is at higher altitude than south and is forested and woodsy rather than desert.

your right.

not nearly as much. It's pretty and very quiet. Different.

I am on the sept. 29 trip. Staying in Vegas 3 nights following trip. Does anyone want to explore, see a show, etc. with me. Any suggestions for hotels on the strip?
Terry Wangsness Aug 10, 2015 at 09:53 PM

If David Copperfield is in town, I would suggest his show. We like Sam's Town, it's off the strip fully filled with stuff to do and free shuttle to all the major hotels, it's been a long time so not sure they still do that. You can check. We got a room facing the inter center with the cafe, laser show, etc...Your away from the rat race.

On the evening of our return from the tour, Au. 30, we have tickets to see Celine Dion at Caesar's. Should be great - she is just re-emerging after some years of professional hiatus for family reasons. We have four tickets, to inlclude my brother and his wife, who live in Las Vegas, but they may not be able to go due to health reasons, in which case we'll have 2 tickets available if one of you would like to go. Rather pricey, though - $161.50 each incl. booking fee! But, hey, we're there and life is to be lived.
Terry Wangsness Aug 22, 2015 at 04:36 PM

too expensive for me and shevwould not interest me. I want to see David Copperfield again. Good luck on selling those tickets.

We're on the August 11th trip. Who are the guide(s) for this trip?

Cathy Rankin Jul 09, 2015 at 05:13 PM

The hotel is ok felt safe when i was there in june .just know that the restaurant only serves breakfast.my room was clean no problems there
Terry Wangsness Jul 09, 2015 at 06:05 PM

I hope so, I read a lot of the reviews from Trip Advisor and they weren't good. When I looked at it online, it is a different hotel than the one I stayed in or I don't remember it anymore. I am not happy with this RS choice of a hotel in Vegas.
Terry Wangsness Jul 09, 2015 at 06:17 PM

Looked up the daily schedule again, glad to know we only have one night in the Alexis Hotel

Catherine Ziel Jul 09, 2015 at 12:06 PM

This trip sounds great, but the Alexis Park Resort gets pretty awful reviews on Trip Advisor, including reports of gunshots in the parking lot last month. Is it safe and acceptable?
Rebecca Machin Jul 09, 2015 at 12:49 PM

My experience was okay but another couple in our group were very unhappy with their room. I never felt unsafe
Terry Wangsness Jul 09, 2015 at 03:53 PM

I am not sure if this is the same hotel that I stayed in when I took this trip a few years ago. I never ventured out of the hotel. I personally do not like Las Vegas. You will be there one night before and one night after the trip. If it is the same one, the continental breakfast was disappointing, there was a smal pool but too hot in there. Dinner was not so good. Seems like shootings are going on everywhere these days. Just be careful and be aware of your surroundings at all times. If and when you meet up with other women, and want to go somewhere, go in groups or take a cab. The rest of the trip is wonderful. I will look up the hotel.

Hello James, I have been on this trip before and am going again in September. It's a wonderful trip, beautiful country. Summer may be crowded with kids, heat, rain, etc...I like to travel in September and October. I find it the best of the year wherever I travel.
