Felicia, Ben and I should arrive Ankara at 3:00 and we did book through Road Scholar. Therefore, there will be a driver waiting for us. I believe it is the custom for anyone arriving at the same time to be allowed to travel with expected travelers assuming there is room. We have been accommodated when we did not book flights with Road scholar. Look forward to meeting you! Suzanne Milazzo

Thanks for the heads up. I'll try to talk my way into the RS van. Looking forward to meeting both of you.

Re the trip to Turkey starting in country on Oct. 15, does anyone else need to take a taxi into Ankara from the airport? My flight gets in at 3:00 pm.
Susan Roberts Sep 30, 2015 at 08:53 AM

If you are using Road Scholar flights, they should have a driver for you. Baltac tours can arrange a driver. If they do, know the drivers are outside the doors of the airport. Taxi should be about 25-50 Turkish Lira.to Rixos.
Felicia Furman Sep 30, 2015 at 11:38 AM

Thank you for the info. I'm not using the Road Scholar travel bureau so I need to provide my own transportation.

Susan Roberts Sep 28, 2015 at 05:27 PM

We paid $195 U.S. and used Kapadokya Balloon Company. They were excellent. It was arranged by the Tour Guide.

Betsy Noyce Sep 28, 2015 at 04:56 PM

I am hoping someone will have information regarding the cost, and the company, of the balloon flights at Cappadocia. RS did not have that information on hand. Online, I looked up the balloon company Rick Steeves seems to use and it was about 175 Euros-which seems much better than the nearly $4-500 it would have cost us in Africa. Anybody have recent information?

Susan Roberts Sep 10, 2015 at 12:50 AM

i arrived a day early. It is now Thursday AM and I'm finishing breakfast. Is there anyone else here early. Would love to walk.

We are looking forward to the trip. We are interested in the history most of all. Is anyone ready to share ideas about what you have been reading in regard to ancient, byzantine or modern history. We both liked Crescent and Star: Turkey between Two Worlds by Stephen Kinzer and we are now seeing the very old classic movie by Elia Kazan America! America! about the Greek population in Turkey. Other reading we would like to share with those interested without going on too long. We travel September 16, 2015 Margaret and Jerry Norton
Leonard Behr Aug 22, 2015 at 02:17 PM

Hi Margaret, We are on the same trip. As for readings I have gone through most of the reading list provided by RS. The best of it seems to me to have ben JJ Nrwich's "Short History of Byzantium". That filed in all the history I missed in high school and college. Where do you folks hail from?
Margaret Norton Aug 30, 2015 at 03:52 PM

Hi Leonard! I am sorry to be tardy in getting back to you.

I've signed up for the trip to Turkey (From legends to History) on October 14. Felicia Furman, Boulder, CO, solo
Victor Moffett Aug 18, 2015 at 07:18 AM

Have fun Felicia! And don't be afraid. Sadly, you'll be safer in Turkey than going to a movie or driving on an interstate in CO.
Felicia Furman Aug 19, 2015 at 02:47 PM

Yes, sadly that's true.
Elaine W Anderson Sep 16, 2015 at 07:40 PM

Hi Felicia, I've signed up for same trip (legends to history Turkey) for Oct 14. I am formerly from Denver (now Salt Lake City, past 6 mos) and am also solo! Would like to meet fellow travelers. Also, I've wanted to visit Turkey FOREVER, and decided the Middle East will not be stable in my lifetime. GO for it!
Felicia Furman Sep 16, 2015 at 10:29 PM

I feel the same way. Have always wanted to go to Turkey and feel like it's now or never
Felicia Furman Sep 16, 2015 at 10:29 PM

Look forward to meeting you.
Felicia Furman Sep 29, 2015 at 11:20 PM

I'm flying into Ankara on a flight from Munich arriving at 3:00 pm. I booked my own flight with United mileage plus so I don't get to ride in the transport provided by Road Scholar and will take a taxi into town. Will anyone else need to take a taxi into Ankara. Do you want to share the ride?
Felicia Furman Sep 29, 2015 at 11:22 PM

Oh, I arriving on October 15th for the Turkey trip.

Maybe you should use a real name?
