It is hard to believe that I will really be at the Grand Canyon soon. Such a longtime wish. Can't wait to share this with all of you.

Catherine Tegarden Nov 21, 2013 at 05:50 AM

Glad people like the idea of sharing our region's in a token gift. I really meant small - like a local candy; postcard of a special place, etc. Love to learn about the participants as well as the area we are visiting. Getting excited! The Grand Canyon has been a life long wish for me.
Natalie Maynor Dec 18, 2013 at 03:47 PM

Question: Are we talking about bringing 43 or so tiny gifts -- one for each person, or are we talking about one slightly better, though still small, gift for something like a drawing?
Catherine Tegarden Dec 20, 2013 at 06:37 AM

That is a lovely ideal. When I thought about this I did not know there would be so many coming. I am just bringing a local candy for those who want to try. I think even a verbal or photo sharing of participants locality would be interesting. Your idea is a great idea.
Natalie Maynor Dec 20, 2013 at 07:30 AM

I'll bring some Mississippi cheese straws that we can share.

Hi everyone. This is my first Road Scholar trip too. I'm really looking forward to it. I've been to the Grand Canyon several times & hiked part way down 3 years ago. It was incredible. I've never been to Sedona. I think a regional gift swap sounds great. I'm driving to Sedona from Sun City West, AZ and would be happy to provide to ride to anyone coming from that area.

Hello, this will be my first Road Scholar trip as well as my first trip to Sedona/Grand Canyon. I'm traveling with my aunt who has gone on many Road Scholar adventures. I'm very excited and really looking forward to this trip.

Hi everyone1 I am really looking forward to this trip. I am traveling with my Niece and this is her first Road Scholar adventure. We would love to participate in a regional gift swap. sounds like fine. We are getting into phoenix a day early and going exploring. We are going to head to the painted desert and if time permits take the long way back to Sedona through the Hopi and Navajo Reservations.

Natalie Maynor Nov 07, 2013 at 04:31 PM

I'm getting worried about the shuttle from Phoenix to Sedona (and back). I was about to make a reservarion with the company that looked most promising (Arizona Shuttle was the name, I think) when I suddenly noticed that it said "operates seasonally" -- March through October. Have any of you made shuttle plans yet? Which company?
Natalie Maynor Nov 07, 2013 at 04:55 PM

Update: In spite of the blurb saying that it operated March-October, I was able to make a reservation for Dec. 21 arrival and Dec. 26 departure, so all is well. The company is Arizona Shuttle.

Catherine Tegarden Nov 03, 2013 at 06:06 AM

Would everyone like to bring a little "present" from your region? I mean small - like we could bring buckeyes from Ohio to share. I like the giving part of the season and like to learn about my Road Scholar companions. Just an idea. Our leaders may not agree.
Natalie Maynor Nov 07, 2013 at 04:29 PM

Sounds fun.

Hi Catherine, it would be great if you wanted to bring something -- even more fun if it is something from your region. As an FYI there will be approximately 40-43 participants in your program.

I am attending the December 21-26,2013 program. I would like to hear from others who plan to attend this program. This will be my first Road Scholar trip and first trip to Grand Canyon.
Natalie Maynor Oct 08, 2013 at 07:50 PM

I just registered for it and bought a plane ticket. I now need to explore the shuttle situation between the Phoenix airport and Sedona. I woud have planned on driving instead, but I need to get home before the three days it would take me to drive it (one way) and because sudden ice storms in the South can wreak havoc on driving. (I live in Mississippi.)
Marta M Oct 08, 2013 at 09:31 PM

Hi natalie,
Marta M Oct 08, 2013 at 09:37 PM

Hi Natalie, Sp far I also have a plane ticket and no shutle bus ticket to sedona. There are 3 bus companies that operate on Phoenix Sedona route. I am looking forward meeting you and others on this trip.
Natalie Maynor Oct 16, 2013 at 07:55 PM

I haven't done anything yet about shuttle arrangements. I wonder whether reservations are required. It would be simpler just to check out the situation upon arrival.
Natalie Maynor Oct 16, 2013 at 08:00 PM

If planes are on time, I will arrive in Phoenix on the 21st at 11:20 a.m. on Southwest flight 961 from Houston.
