I am on the March 20th-26th trip in Marble Canyon and looking for a ride back to Phoenix after the trip.

I'm going on the same trip but booked the shuttle; it leaves from the Phoenix airport and cheaper than renting a car for a week.

Would anyone in the group be interested in going to The Wave, either before or after the trip? It requires permits, and I could take care of getting them. We would need transporation - it requires a 46 miles drive.
Jodi Abbott Nov 24, 2015 at 11:24 AM

Which trip are you going on?
Bonnie Smietanowska Nov 30, 2015 at 01:55 PM

Linda, I am looking at this trip for April 10-16 and/or the Lake Powell trip for april 3-8. I have been to Coyote Buttes south and would love to go again, it's much more interesting than the Wave (Coyote Buttes North). I tried for months to get permit for The Wave and eventually gave up. The chances are best by showing up in person for the lottery on a day when the weather is awful, and be prepared for it. It needs a high-clearance 4X4 to get to the trailheads at any time of year. I used a rented Ford Escape last time.

I would LOVE to go to the wave!!! And I have a car but it is a Toyota RAV (rental). We could also (assuming we get permits) hire a guide for the day if there are 2 of us. I am going to the 4/10-16 trip, but am not going flying back home until the 18th. Also if anybody needs to be picked up in Phoenix I could do that if you want.
Jodi Abbott Jan 27, 2016 at 07:37 PM

Sorry, going March 20-26th or I'd jump on this opportunity!
Bonnie Smietanowska Jan 27, 2016 at 07:46 PM

Folks, just be aware that your chances of getting a permit for The Wave are less than 4%, according to BLM, and that's if you enter the lottery 4 months in advance.

By any chance are we going to Buckskin Gulch? I didn't see it mentioned in the itinerary, and was hoping....I'm going on this trip in March of next year.
Gayle Sheets Sep 22, 2015 at 09:12 AM

Hi Jodi, I've been on the Marble Canyon trip twice and we've never gone to Buckskin Gulch. So, I tracked down an outfitter in Kanab who takes small groups in: www.kanabwesternadventures.com The owner is Mike Henrie and he is a terrific guide. I'm from Florida, so when I go west, I try to get in as much adventuring as possible. White Pockets in the Vermilion Cliffs area is another hike you might want to consider. We've done that with Mike also. Good luck!
Gayle Sheets Sep 22, 2015 at 09:25 AM

Jodi, be sure to take binoculars with you too. Spring is the time to watch for California Condors hanging around Navajo Bridge right where you will be staying. Last March we saw 7 flying. This is a bird whose hayday was the Pleistocene, and it almost became extinct in the 1980s. Just adds to the excitement!
Jodi Abbott Sep 25, 2015 at 08:15 AM

Thanks, Gayle.

It is wierdly funny that I am mostly posting to myself but just in case someone is reading my posts, I decided to go ahead and come in to Phoenix. I finally found the right airline connections to meet the Van!! Yipee!
Margaret Smith Aug 10, 2015 at 02:16 PM

So, how did you like the trip? I plan to go next year in March

Liz Loring Feb 24, 2015 at 08:54 PM

I hope to fly in to Flagstaff and hopefully this can be checked out?? before I make a reservation.Thx

Liz Loring Feb 15, 2015 at 04:13 PM

I am enrolled in the 4/12-18 program and I would like to know where to fly in. I thought it made sense to come into Flagstaff..Im going to call Monday to see what the shuttle operator says!? I'll let others know what I find out.

karin grobe Jan 28, 2015 at 12:05 PM

We are enrolled in the April 12-18, 2015 program. We can fly into/out of either Flagstaff or Phoenix. Is anyone able to offer carshare or advice on which airport is the best? Flagstaff is closer but the shuttle operator is really negative about picking us up there, and wants us to fly into Phoenix.
Gayle Sheets Jan 28, 2015 at 12:17 PM

Did you book your reservations thru Road Scholar? If so, it may be that most of the group is flying into Phoenix and your flying there too will make the pickup process easier.
