We're hoping the same thing about Jeff. When I called, I was told he would not be our guide. We usually get along with guides and have had great experiences with Road Scholar. We're all set for a couple of days of road tripping before joining the group in Tucson.
Barbara Buescher Jan 10, 2015 at 04:28 PM

So we were told information in error.........But we're going to power through!
Steve Swarin Jan 10, 2015 at 06:13 PM

Yes, we were told the same thing and then received the paperwork which indicated he would be the guide. We will keep an open mind.

Steve Swarin Dec 02, 2014 at 10:35 PM

OK, we're going to hope that Jeff had a "bad day" or a personality conflict with some of his guests in 2013, and sign up for this trip. Thanks for all the input.

Mike and I did this program in February 2013 with Bruce as our guide. He was thoughtful, enthusiastic, helpful with suggestions. He also was open about past issues with meals. So as he took us to new restaurants, he asked for our opinions. (They were great). I would recommend this program. Are the Road Scholar people listening to this discussion board? Can they respond to your concerns about specific past guides? Maybe they have been let go. Maybe it was only one. Anyway Bruce was a great one. Enjoy your trip. We did.

I have been in touch with Road Scholar about this issue and they are responding. But it may take several days going through channels.

Thanks for all the input. Does anyone know if Jeff Strang is still associated with this program? This website still lists him as one of the "Experts" for this program. Did anyone have him as a guide after February, 2013
Helen Sternheim Dec 02, 2014 at 03:48 PM

I have had Jeff as a guide on the color country trip (Bryce, Zion, North Rim Grand Canyon. That was in 2004 or so. He was excellent.

I just had Jeff as a guide on an AZ photography trip. He was great -- helpful, friendly, organized, and also an excellent photographer.

My husband and I participated in this program in January 2013. Bruce our tour guide was wonderful, so helpful, so knowledgeable. Some of the accommodations and meals were disappointing. The sights we saw were extremely memorable.
Helen Sternheim Dec 01, 2014 at 09:59 PM

Just did this program in November 2014. maels were very good to excellent. Hotels were good to excellent.

Janet Munro Dec 01, 2014 at 02:23 PM

Correction ... I did the Great Deserts program with Matt Turner in 2013.

Janet Munro Dec 01, 2014 at 02:02 PM

I did the Great Deserts program in 2012, and it was absolutely superb in every way. Our leader was Matt Turner who was excellent. He knew when to guide and lead us, and when to allow us to just take in all the
beauty and wonder on our own. People who expect 4 and 5 star accommodations are clearly lacking in understanding of what Road
Scholar is, and whom it is for.

Steve Swarin Dec 01, 2014 at 01:42 PM

My wife and I are interested in this program, but are concerned about the poor reviews that the guide received for the February, 2014 program. (see below). Should we sign up and hope the guide has improved (or been fired) or should we skip the program?
Helen Sternheim Dec 01, 2014 at 10:06 PM

id this program Nov 2014. With Matt Turner and Dave Hart. The program was well run. Hotels good to excellent. Food good to excellent.
