My husband John and I will be attending the February Independent Barcelona trip. I am a retired French teacher, John still works a little. This is our second RS trip, the first was to Isle Royale in Lake Superior. We're from Grand Rapids, MI. I'm busy reading all the books that are on our recommendation list! We're looking forward to meeting all of you.

We've traveled on to Portugal after our wonderful, memorable week in Barcelona (hi, Jane!) and we, too, are still glowing. This was our second RS adventure and we can hardly wait for the next one. Everything was well planned and thought out and our guide, Lucy, was perfect--smart, funny, incredibly well informed, endlessly patient and just a total delight. What a treasure she is. Silvia, our main instructor, was also super knowledgeable, very amusing and provided all those fascinating
little details that make the information come alive. Our group was really congenial and the whole week was a pleasure from start to finish. Bravo, Road Scholar!!

We just got back yesterday from our Independent Barcelona adventure, and are still basking in the glow of this beautiful, exciting city and our first (but not last) RS program. I wanted to share a transit tip: the AeroBus service that connects the airport with the city center. It's cheap (5,90 euros) and efficient, and its final stop at Placa de Catalunya is an easy 15-minute walk to the Hotel Catalonia Eixample 1864. Or, there's a taxi queue at the drop-off point. Visit their excellent website for full information, including useful videos. We bought our tickets ahead of the trip, but you can also buy them on the bus. Hope this helps!

David and I second Phil's comment: we look forward to meeting you both and, based on our one previous (and very positive) experience with Road Scholar, we think you'll be very pleased. See you in Barcelona!

My husband Bob and I will be in Barcelona on Oct. 3 for the Independent Barcelona tour. We are retired and living in Albuquerque, NM. This will be our first Road Scholar tour. We will be continuing on to Madrid for a few days following Barcelona. We are looking forward to meeting everyone.
Phil Damewood Sep 13, 2015 at 10:47 PM

I think you will love Road Scholar. Look forward to meeting you and Bob. See you in Barcelona.

Will be on the Nov 6 thru 11 Independent Barcelona tour, starting out on the 4th. Who else is on board?
Mary Clayton Sep 28, 2015 at 02:07 PM

I will be there...arriving in Barcelona and staying at program hotel the night of Nov. 6 - a day early. W

Are you arriving early?
Robin Eisner Sep 29, 2015 at 09:50 AM

Yes, I am arriving early to deal with jet lag...This is my first RS tour. How about you?
Mary Clayton Sep 30, 2015 at 01:22 PM

I am also trying to minimize jet lag by arriving early. A number of years ago, I went to Switzerland with Road Scholar and thought it was very well organized and a great value. Are you staying at the program hotel the night of November 6? I will be there. Where do you live?
Robin Eisner Oct 01, 2015 at 03:42 AM

I will be at the program hotel starting on the 5th. I now live in NC--for three years. Formerly, a NYer. Where do you live?

I am originally from the mid-west, but have lived in central Texas for over 30 years. I am a retired attorney and now work part of the year for the federal government. Do you work? Have you ever been to Spain? Do you speak/understand Spanish? I can usually make out written Spanish, but have trouble understanding when someone is talking. What do you look forward to the most about the program. I leave the U.S. on November 5 and arrive in Barcelona on the 6th about 9 a.m. Looks like I can get from the airport to the program hotel via train.
Robin Eisner Oct 03, 2015 at 04:11 PM

I speak Spanish enough to get buy, but Catalan is different, so there may be some challenges. I am a docent and do art, now that I retired from journalism. Looking forward to the entire trip; wondering about doing trips to Dali museum or Montserrat. What are you looking forward to?
Robin Eisner Oct 03, 2015 at 04:40 PM

Whoops; I am leaving on the 14th!

Would you like to try and meet up when I arrive at program hotel on Nov 6 - maybe we could have a meal and get acquainted?! I am also interested in the side trips you mentioned - not sure when we will have time for those. I need to read over the schedule more closely...
Robin Eisner Oct 05, 2015 at 06:42 PM

Let's play it by year; I may have taken a side trip on Nov. 6.
