I had my heart set on a spring adventure, but may need to consider a September one. I am asking people who have taken the adventure in the autumn to share their thoughts/experience about the weather/temperature, if they please.

I wasbooked for the May/June trip but was changed to the May 10 program. I prefer this time since it is tulip time. Does any one know how many are signed up for the trip?

The reviews from the June 2011 trip are horrible. I really wanted to take this trip but the reviews have scared me off. Any thoughts?

Anyone care to share their experience ???

My husband, Pete, and I took this trip in May, 2006. It was a wonderful trip, with a great group. The provider International Bicyle Tours, planned a very good trip. We were not rushed, but we had to keep up the pace or we would not make our lock appointments or meet our barge at the appointed times. We saw beautiful countryside, our meals were well done on the barge, our room was small, but adequate. The bicycles were 5 speed, ladies style, and well maintained. The bike seats were not uncomfortable--we did not have racing bikes or mountain bikes--just plain old touring bikes! The tour took us through small towns and villages, we did not ride in the big cities such as Amsterdam, Antwerpen or Masstrich. We did walking tours and ejnjoyed many places on foot. We had a lot of time to take pictures, we each took close to 1000. All in all, it was a great trip, well worth the time, effort and money we put it.

What were the cabins and showers like? WE have done bike tours with Elderhostel but I am unsure about the small, darkness of the boats, whether there will be adequate hot water when everyone returns to the barge, and how hot it will be in the cabin with only a small port hole? It sounds like a beautiful trip but........

Hope I can answer your questions--The shower was large enough for a comfortable bath and we had plenty of hot water. We had plenty of light in our cabin, we kept our door open to let the air pass through (except when dressing, etc). There was a small window in the cabin area and one also in the bathroom area. We washed our underwear and dried it on a clothesline that we strung up in the bathroom area. We had 2 single bunks, long enough for a tall person and our suitcases fit under them. If we sat facing each other on the beds, our knees touched! The only time we spent in the cabin was sleeping, so we didn't require much space. We were on the barge "Sarah". I did take some pictures of the cabin and bathroom if you are interested. Let me know--I'll email them to you. Joanne

Wife and I did the Bike and Barge of Netherlands and Belgian in Sept/Oct 2011 on the Lena Maria. Cabin size was more than adequate for the two of us. Bathroom was modern with the shower being large with plenty of how water even after a long days ride with competing people using their showers. Food on board was fantastic. Both the captain and cook were female and they were wonderful. Would love to sail with them again. Loved the countryside rides and our trips to the various towns and cites. All in all a great Road Scholar trip.
