Road Scholar
Program #12416RJ
14 Days | 13 Nights
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

See the comments below re Road Scholar's policy on tipping. Tips ARE included in the cost of your trip-a REAL NICE FEATURE of RS trips. At the end of our trip we DID tip our RS leader (beyond RS expectations or that of the leader). We felt his work was exceptional. We did so in Euros--far more convenient for the French locals. We found Euros readily accessible from the local ATMs.

Laurie Travers Sep 12, 2014 at 07:15 PM

We were wondering about the appropriate way to tip our leader and the experts. Should we bring US currency? Are euros preferred? Any advice about tipping would be appreciated. Thanks.
Gregory Osborne Sep 12, 2014 at 07:29 PM

It's my understanding that tipping is included.
Sarah "Sally" Everett Sep 12, 2014 at 09:08 PM

There's a section on Tipping in the prelim. materials. It's included for guides, drivers, etc.

We are going from Milwaukee to Detroit, then on to Paris with Delta.

Laurie Travers Sep 04, 2014 at 10:38 PM

We're on Delta also, but Denver to Minneapolis, then on to Paris. Anyone else?

Linda Haller Sep 04, 2014 at 08:50 PM

Are there any participants on the Sept 14 trip who are flying out of Pittsburgh on the delta non-stop flight Sunday night?

Thank you, Steve, for sending us a detailed description of the field trips and lectures that are still included in our D-Day trip on Sept. 14. Also, thank you for providing us with the names and backgrounds of the leaders and lecturers. It goes a long way to addressing our concerns and we are looking forward to our trip.

We also are relieved and gratified to have the much more detailed information from Steve about the expert lecturers and field guides. We are very much looking forward to the trip.

I would not be concerned about the change in Paris hotel unless you have arranged for someone to meet you.
As for the D-Day portion, the important person is the local authority, Jean Pierre Benamou is very good. I cannot comment on any other changes.

Laurie Travers Sep 03, 2014 at 11:00 AM

I saw this information change yesterday morning (9/2) when I went online to print out the final booklet. (I had decided to print it off the computer after we received 2 defective copies of what turned out not to be the "final" mailing.) When I saw the changes, I called Road Scholar and asked about the new lecture topics, which seemed odd and disappointing to me. The person I spoke to knew nothing about this and promised to have someone call me back. So far, no one has called.

Then we received the email and letter, which states the following "We need to make sure that you have received this new information. If you have not spoken to us about this update already, please reply to this email or contact our Participant Services department at 1-800-466-8794 between the hours of 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM Eastern Time, Monday through Friday and ask to speak with a Personal Program Planner."
I suggest anyone with concerns about the program do this! Since this is our first Road Scholar trip, we don't know whether or not the Road Scholar people read the Discussion Board, so they might not realize that people are concerned.
Linda Haller Sep 03, 2014 at 02:43 PM

They realize now because I called. Eventually, my call was channeled to a program planner named Steve. I did not speak with him directly, but he left me a voice message to say they are addressing our concerns with the people in France. And would get back to us. If others are also concerned, I suggest calling him as he is the point person. 1-800-466-8794 ext 4099.. I had asked specifically that tours in the Louvre and at Giverny be added to compensate for loosing the leader with that expertise.
