My wife and I are on the May 3 to 15, 2015 trip. We have previously done the Normandy to Paris along the Seine and also Independent Paris. Looking forward to Provence and cruising the Rhone . Anyone out there joining us?

Barbara Ringel Feb 11, 2015 at 03:02 PM

We've heard from a few people who've done this trip and appreciate the feedback. We've registered for the Oct 2 trip and would love to hear from members who have been on the trip at that season. We're esp interested in weather & appropriate clothing. Avg temp is colder than we expected, so any advice would be appreciated. We know the tour guides are terrific & itinerary sounds terrific - looking forward!

Barbara. I went in april so cannot tell you about the weather in Oct but I do know that the weather is similiar to our. Casual clothing is appropriate with layers naturally. We did not do anything that required getting "fancied up." Have a great time. You are in for a treat. Polly

Barbara, I went in Oct and generally wore a light jacket except for the rainy day I agree with Polly's comments..

This is not listed as a Small Group program, so I am wondering how large the group may be. Is this a full-size bus group (in early part of trip)?
Barbara Ringel Feb 11, 2015 at 02:58 PM

My husband & I just registered for this trip in Oct & were told it'll be a maximum of 30.
Polly Elliott Feb 11, 2015 at 03:41 PM

We had as I remember about 27. It was a good group but not too large. Of course the boat had a lot more but we were our own group and even had our tables reserved for the meal. Have a great time. Polly

I was on the trip at the same time as Al Eby. We had one rainy day but most of the time the weather was beautiful Traveling by river boat is very relaxing and saves the trouble of packing every day.

My wife and I did the Rhone from Aix to Paris in the Spring of '13. We did have rain part of the time so be prepared. It was also a time of flooding which gave RS a chance to show its flexibility. Well done! The boat is a step above basic and the food was decent. Our high point was our guide who matched the very best we have had in years of touring. Enjoy

We did the trip October 2013 and agree with Susan Cook's comments below.Boat was comfortable, food was 7 out of 10, scenery and RS stops and guides along the way were excellent.

Paul Ringel Feb 07, 2015 at 03:42 PM

My wife and I are thinking of going on this trip in October. We are interested in hearing feedback from people who have taken this trip about the riverboat experience itself, as well as weather in October in that area.
Susan Cook Feb 07, 2015 at 04:21 PM

Hi Paul I took this trip in 2013 in September. The weather was beautiful except for rain in Paris. The best thing about traveling on a riverboat is that you unpack once. The food was good and the staff were pleasant. The Road Scholar guides were exceptional. All in all a wonderful trip. Enjoy and learn!

My husband and I will be part of this tour beginning April 17, 2015. I know there is a good possibility of rain and am wondering how to handle it. I have an easily packable jacket and a knee length rain coat. If I take the coat I will wear it on the plane so it's not a problem. So I'm wondering if it rains, how much time will we be outside so I know what kind of protection I will need. I hate umbrellas but I know that is an option. I also know that layering is best. But what about rain gear?
Polly Elliott Feb 11, 2015 at 03:44 PM

I did this trip in April and I do not remember it raining much if any. You are outside a lot and you will be walking from the boat a lot so if it rains you will need a good raincoat.
