I would love to "meet" anyone going on the December 1 - 18 trip this year. I am a novice traveler and am very excited about this trip.

Sharon Lee-Faris Jul 24, 2014 at 03:01 PM

I am on the Sept. 28 trip and am looking for a roommate, female. I am a companionable 75 year old in good shape and so looking forward to this trip. I am also Buddhist and really excited about their spiritual traditons.

Anyone signed up for the Nov. 4, 2014?
Anita Miller Jul 21, 2014 at 01:23 PM

Hi folks, I took this trip in June of 2013 and it was FABULOUS! Our guide, Fin, took us to a local bank on the first day to exchange US$ for Bhutanese money. Just take $20's to exchange, no $100 bills. I exchanged only about $200 because there isn't much need for money except to buy an occasional trinket. Weather was summerish in June but I found a poncho to be handy when we were caught in the rain because the poncho covers your daypack as well as keeps you dry.

I too am interested in the September or December trip. I too am interested in the weather during this time of the year. Also interested in sharing lodging as I will be travelling solo.

Linda Bitter Jan 20, 2014 at 04:33 PM

I am considering the Sept 28 departure of this trip. What is the weather like in sept?
Sharon Lee-Faris Jul 24, 2014 at 02:55 PM

I am told the average temperature in Sept./Oct. is 70, 74 highest and cold at night.

I used a credit card at the hotel in Thialand. I carried US dollars. I don't recall having any problems using the dollars, but then, I am not a shopper. I usually have a glass of wine with dinner, but wine was not available by the glass, or not at all. I don't remember, but we drank only the local beer. US dollars work in all the airports.

Karen Nickel-Creusere Jan 20, 2014 at 12:09 AM

Good, your update on currency was reassuring. The book on Bhutan I am reading was published in 1992, and apparently things have changed in the interim. Will take US dollars as you recommended.

Leonard Behr Jan 19, 2014 at 07:37 PM

You won't need much money Karen and you will find that the gift shops do take credit cards. Also, there are one or two ATMs in the country and your guides will make sure you can get to them or change some cash. Bring a couple hundred dollars American, 20s and 50s best, they prefer to change the larger bills rather than the small ones. Len Behr
