Peggy & Jim from Mississippi have just signed on for this trip departing Sept 4, 2016. Anyone else onboard then?
Anna Neal Jan 29, 2016 at 12:41 PM

Cliff & Sue from Wichita KS will be aboard.

Deborah Booth Aug 12, 2015 at 05:48 PM

Thanks for the info. If you click on "pricing &I travel options" and follow the directions, they will call you. Spoke with a nice lady yesterday & now have all my ducks in a row!

I'm still waiting for RS to contact me concerning flights to the program. Does anyone know if I'm supposed to call them or do they just book the flights and then let me know what they are?
Helen Sternheim Aug 06, 2015 at 03:06 PM

I think you need to call RS's travel agency.
Lauren Smith Aug 12, 2015 at 03:33 PM

Hi Deborah! You do need to contact Road Scholar. They can tell you th status of your reservation, and if your travel hasn't been booked and you would like them to, they can take care of it. If you call the 1-800 number at the top of the page, they'll take care of you. If you have any other questions, you can e-mail me at lsmith@routesadventures.ca. Thanks!

I'm looking forward to my first long distance train trip. Anyone else going in October?
Mary Lynn Rice-Lively Aug 01, 2015 at 09:59 AM

I'm signed up for the October 2015 trip.
Deborah Booth Aug 01, 2015 at 12:31 PM

Hi, have you been on one of these trips before? This is the first Road Scholar program that I will have been on.
Mary Lynn Rice-Lively Aug 02, 2015 at 09:02 AM

This will be my first Road Scholar trip as well, but I've heard good things about their program.

Apart from the roomettes, what other "rooms" are available on the train? I assume there's a dining car, but is there also an observation car, maybe similar to the old Vistadome cars with glass roofs?
James Conroy May 23, 2015 at 12:59 PM

We were on this trip last October. There's a Dining Car, an Entertainment Car (board games etc.) and an Observation Car. Check out the accommodations at VIArail.ca click on the Toronto to Vancouver trip.
Deborah Booth May 27, 2015 at 05:38 PM

How was the weather in October?
James Conroy May 27, 2015 at 08:28 PM

The weather for us was great all te way to Vancouver. But weather is unpredictable, you should be prepared for all types of weather. Just "go with the flow" and enjoy.

Kay - suggest you switch to email to keep in touch. We did this program last fall and all the hotels we stayed at had public use computers. Whomever you get your email from undoubtedly has a web-based interface you can access from a hotel computer (ours - Verizon has webmail).
Also - make sure you turn OFF your phone while you're in Canada - if it's a smarty-phone it will keep trying to find a connection for it's internet stuff and this will cost you lots of money.

Kay Wienke May 07, 2015 at 10:36 AM

Does anyone know how we can keep in touch with the US during this tour? I have called our phone company and the cost is more than $2/minute for calls to or from Canada.
Jim Isaak May 07, 2015 at 06:29 PM

I got hit by high messaging costs on my "smart" phone... so watch this as well

Hi Kay, One way you can keep in touch is to buy phone cards. A lot of them are cheap and give you quite a lot of time for the price. You can also try through your hotel’s landline which will be cheaper than your cell phone. I hope that helps!
