I'm going on the February 7 to 13 trip. Is anybody else flying from Newark, NJ on the 10:40 AM United flight?

We will be going on the Jan 31 - Feb 6, 2016 trip which is rated "active". Will sneakers with a good sole be sufficient or should we bring a hiking shoe?
Carol Bishop Jan 25, 2016 at 02:09 PM

I took this trip in November, 2015. While sneakers may be OK on some of the trails (for instance the dunes and Badwater Basin) , I would strongly recommend that if you have hiking boots they are safer and offer more support to your ankles as you walk over some loose rocks. Carol

I would not recommend sneakers for this trip. I took this trip in November and, going directly to your question, I was having some ankle-skin (pre-existing) problem that led me to change over to sneakers for the final day and a half of the trip. I was able to do it but it was tough on my feet. I could not have done a mile more than I did in the sneakers.

I will be arriving on Nov 14 (flight comes in at 10PM) for the program starting on 15th. Anyone else (female) staying Sat night at Alexis Park? Would like to share a room if possible.

i am a novice hiker but I think I can do the five miles a day if it is not overly challenging. Can you advise?
Judith Flemke Nov 06, 2015 at 10:28 AM

I was an "urban walker" when I did this hike last year. You will do fine, take advantage of the hiking poles the leaders usually have available. Enjoy. Hope the rain the valley has had will result in wildflowers.

Thank you for this. Very reassuring.

I will be on Nov 15th trip. Looking forward to experiencing a new place (for me) and meeting new people.
