today Carnaval line announced they will commence cruises from Miami to Havana in May 2016. see it before it changes.
Kate Grey Jul 14, 2015 at 11:55 PM

Luckily, until, travel restrictions are lifted, it's just the new Carnival Fathom brand which will sail to Cuba. Like Road Scholar, it's also operating under People to People license, and those ships only hold about 700 passengers. But once restrictions are lifted, it will be no holds barred - ships disgorging 4,000'passengers will dock in Old Havana. Glad I'm beating themt there in October!

Ooh! So excited. I just booked for Sept. 28 departure. Anyone else in this group?

You also can take a cart. I got off the plane and there was an empty cart sitting there and it took 6 people and off we went. Actually my past experiences in the Miami airport coming from South and Central America was the same long walk. I think it has something to do with customs, etc. being closer to connecting flights and baggage claim then to the flights coming in. Who knows.

Susan, I wish I had been warned. YOu were wise to take the wheel chair....

Susan Sandler Jun 23, 2015 at 05:33 PM

I also had a heavy tote bag and was warned about the long walk in the Miami airrport on the return trip.....First time in my life, I asked for a wheel chair and am I glad I did.... Nice airline employee took me through special lines and right up to the ticket counter of my return airline.....I gave her a generous tip and it was very well worth every penny!

Leaving Miami was very simple and easy. However, I would advise that, if possible you take a wheelchair when you get back to Miami. The charter airline is at the furthest point to getting through emigration and customs. (which by the way is fairly simple with the new automated situation). I opted to walk...great mistake as I had a carry on piece of luggage. I was knocked out....The flights both to and from Miami short and the pilots were great and also the stewardess (I am old fashioned!!)...YOu will love to see Cuba...Great time there and very informative...Have a great trip

Claire ....flights to Cuba are the same as any airline situation these days. Weather, etc etc. Our flight going to Cuba was delayed 3 hours due to rain storms in Havana. Our "late lunch" scheduled on our itinerary became an "early dinner" ...but it was all fine. Coming back we left about 1/2 hr later than scheduled. I had just 3 hours between flights but with the new Kiosks for Passport Control at the Miami airport plus the much more organized luggage pickup and Customs I made my flight easily with 1/2 hr to spare. Also once you go thru passport control and customs in Miami you have to check in with your airline as you cannot get boarding passes in Cuba ...however, even that was easy as the airlines had a special line for those of us coming from Cuba. While we waited 3 hrs to go to Cuba it actually was ok ....our group had time to get acquainted and talk; there were places to eat and it didn't seem that terrible. Marianne Ham

Do the flights leaving Cuba take off on time or did
you wind up waiting hours in the airport?
Susan Sandler Jun 23, 2015 at 05:14 PM

Hi Claire....We were required to be at Miami Airport three hours in advance of our flight.......Our flight was an additional hour late taking off so we did spend four hours in the airport......Our lunch also became our dinner and our group decided to skip dinner as we were tired and ready to get to our rooms....
