Berlin: May 2016! I lived at Tempelhof while in Air Force in the early '70s. Loved the city then and excited to see it again after all these years. Traveling alone; hope to make new friends.

Just returned from this tour and it was great! I can't say enough about our guides, Oleg and Charley, the city is fascinating and the people on the tour were terrific!!
Wayne Taylor Sep 03, 2015 at 02:48 PM

Good to hear. I note one evening is a musical performance. Was that a "dress-up" event? Trying to plan ahead with what to pack. Thanks for your input and insights.

Yes, that and the last dinner we "dressed up" for. No need for a neck tie or jacket though.

Any comments on the Hotel Allegra? Are there hair driers in the bathrooms? We are going on the Oct 2 trip
Premium Email Subscriber Sep 02, 2015 at 04:12 PM

I don't think there are hairdryers. The weird thing in the bathroom indicated it was a shaver. The hotel is basic but nice and really clean. The service there is very responsive and the breakfast excellent. The location can't be beat!!

We are coming in to Berlin at 11:30 to noon on Aug 22. I am told that the group pickup is at 9 AM which seems very early to me. Looking forward to the program. I am a retired engineer

LOOKING AT THE AUGUST 21 TO AUGUST 29 TRIP IN 2015 SEEMS A SHAME TO PAY AIR FARE FOR THAT LITTLE BIT OF TIME IN EUROPE. ANYONE HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR A SECOND WEEK ON THIS.MAYBE WITH A DAY OR TWO BETWEEN . LOOK FORWARD TO HEARING YOUR THOUGHTS
Charles Niessen Feb 25, 2015 at 09:06 PM

Eema: I took this trip in 2013 and it was great. But before going I, too, looked for an extention to interesting places nearby. 60 to 90 minute trains will get you to some interesting towns: Leipzig, Dresden, Wittenberg & Efurt (Martin Luther), plus some of the Organ masters/composers. Rick Steves Germany has details.

Anyone going in Sept. or hints on how many Euros to bring?
Charles Niessen Aug 16, 2014 at 11:23 AM

Charles Niessen Aug 16, 2014 at 11:29 AM

Paul: If you can, get 100 euro from your bank before you leave. Tt or even in town. But you have to have a 4 number PIN and you must call your bank before you leave to tell them you will be using your ATM card. (Also call for any credit card you intend to use.)he best way to get Euros is by using your ATM card at any bank in Berlin. Better exchange rate than kiosks in the airpor
Charles Niessen Aug 16, 2014 at 11:34 AM

Paul: Sorry my post got mangled by the text editor . Best to use your 4 digit PIN at a bank in Berlin than any money-changing kiosk.
