Hi, I'm an art professional going 9/22 - 10/4. We have some free time in Venice, I plan to use that to go to the Venice Biennale....among other things. Anyone want to join me? Been to Venice a couple of time but always missed the Biennale.

Patricia Merk Sep 27, 2014 at 07:16 PM

I took the following things that I found useful: small flashlight for by my bed; plastic clothesline with clips,a couple of plastic hangars for pants and shirts to dry; your own washcloths--they don't provide them; Euros or ATM card (took too much American cash and that was a pain also--easier to get Euros from ATM) -- most of the smaller stuff like light meals, postcards and such they really won't take credit cards much--you need source of Euros. Good walking shoes--never wore anything else--if planning on opera or something--still flat shoes as lots of walking. Buy a good Venice map or Lonely planet book on Venice here--lots cheaper. I loved the trip. Took 2500 pictures as I am a camera buff--a lot to toss but got some great ones. Extra batteries and all chargers: Camera batteries outside of camera (I used 2 or 3 a day and recharged daily. ;ereader ; Make sure your phone is setup for Europe or will be very expensive. Be sure to keep every thing in Airplane mode even when on the ground as it keeps you from getting excessive wifi charges. Last but not least--I got hacked after I used the public laptop in the Venice hotel to check my email. Have a wonderful trip!!

thank you, thank you.

Great tips for any travel!

Judy Katz Sep 25, 2014 at 10:04 PM

I'm leaving on Oct. 14, and would love to hear from other participants -- especially anyone who has tips or suggestions about how to prepare or what to take.
Paul Cirielli Sep 26, 2014 at 06:28 AM

We just returned, the trip was great. As with any trip, electric adapter, a debit card, pepto bismol, a small Purell, and travel tolet tissue can come in handy. We had great weather, however, it may be a little cooler especially on the water, when you go, so a fleece and lightweight rain jacket would be helpful. We didn't have any high water, and the fall is not the season for it.

Thank you so much!

I would like to hear from the others that will be attending. With regard to the boots question from last year I just ordered the over the shoe clear plastic boots from Amerimark (others have them too.) They fold flat and should not take up much weight or space. What other tips do you have for getting ready for this trip?
Marilyn Canna Apr 08, 2014 at 02:13 PM

Do you really think we'll have aqua alta this year in Venice?
Patricia Merk Apr 08, 2014 at 03:35 PM

If I take boots and an umbrella probably not--but I am of the be overly prepared group! Can't help it--it is in my genes.

Departing for this tour from Chicago on May 6, 2014. My roommate is traveling on to Florence after the Venice/Padua tour. I would like to stay on for a few days myself in the region, Lake Country, Cinque Terre or for another extra excursion. Just not for another 12 days. Anyone interested in joining me? Any ideas for where to extend our stay after the big tour? Grazie mille! Looking forward to meeting everyone...
Marilyn Canna Apr 08, 2014 at 02:13 PM

I shortened my extension to just a few days. Heading to Lake Garda and Verona. Company would be welcome!
Patricia Merk Apr 08, 2014 at 03:39 PM

I will be in Lake Garda also. Meeting my American cousin to see where my great grandfather lived. He is making the arrangements but let me know if you are going there or Verona first. direct email plmkbus@gmail.com

I will be on this trip departing Kennedy airport New York on May 6, 2014. Would like to get to know some other folks who are travelling. I am going as a solo female but enjoy meeting all attendees.

Paul Cirielli Oct 18, 2013 at 03:45 PM

My partner, Sharon and I will be going on this trip to Venice & Padua 9/9/2014 out of JFK (via road Scholar). One of my hobbies is Italian history and I plan on extending my knowledge of Venetian history over the coming months. I would be interested in comparing thoughts with others with a keen interest in the history of the region.

I just returned from the Oct 1-13, 2113 trip. You will love this trip and our instructor J. Michael Broderick. I am not a history buff so I learned a lot. He is originally from Canada but has been in Venice since 1992 and has been doing tours for U. S. congressional members and cabinet members. Actually he's from New York. I reread the bio.
Paul Cirielli Oct 19, 2013 at 05:12 PM

I was in Venice 30 years ago for only 2 or 3 days. This time I'm really looking foward to visiting the islands and Ravenna. I have a beautiful red and gold Venitian vase the I bought when I was there last, that's probably the only valuable piece of anything I own. Of all of the places I have been, I feel that Venice is the most amazing!

Susan Morrison Jul 05, 2013 at 12:10 PM

Does a one-meter high tide mean there will be some flooding? I am wondering about boots.
Judy Eager Jul 06, 2013 at 09:12 AM

I've seen pictures of San Marco Square flooded and tourists in rubber boots. I'm sure they will be selling boots everywhere. Too heavy for packing in your luggage.
