When is best time to go for cooler weather and smaller crowds? Is early September an optimal time to go.
Saul Allweiss Jan 05, 2015 at 04:13 PM

I went on this trip in October and had a wonderful time, as facr as weather is concerned, it was hot in Rome, okay in Florence and chilly in Venice.
Saul Allweiss Jan 05, 2015 at 04:15 PM

As far as the crowds are concerned, every place was pretty crowded in October and I would have to guess it would be even more crowded in September.
June Harris Jan 25, 2015 at 11:51 AM

I went in mid-September. The weather was great. The crowds were still present, though.

Anybody going on the Nov. 2-15 trip? My husband and I are leaving from Ithaca, NY, to Philadelphia to Rome. Would like to "meet" fellow travelers beforehand.
Etta Rubinstein Sep 27, 2014 at 04:21 PM

I will be on that trip flying out of Phila on Lufthansia. Perhaps we will have time to meet at the airport. Looking forward to meeting you and your husband. Etta Rubinstrin
Etta Rubinstein Sep 27, 2014 at 04:26 PM

I misspelled my name. It is Etta Rubinstein.
Elizabeth Bauman Sep 28, 2014 at 12:37 PM

Hi Etta, We have a long layover in Philly, so can try to meet up with you at the airport. We are scheduled to arrive from Ithaca in Philly at 12:38 pm and our flight to Rome doesn't leave until 6:25 pm. Both flights are U.S. Airways. Let's exchange cell phone numbers closer to that day, and we can try to call each other in the airport--would be fun. Liz
Etta Rubinstein Sep 28, 2014 at 06:20 PM

Hi Liz, I will be at the airport about 2-2:30. My flight leaves at 5:50 pm. so we should have time yo meet.

Look forward to meeting you and learning more about Mazzorba. See you soon.

Marie Salerno Sep 17, 2014 at 07:01 PM

those going on the 9/22 to 10/4 trip. There's a small, hidden island Mazzorba, that you can get to by bridge from Burano, the lace island. We can get to Burano from Murano. Check it out and we can talk when we meet. Here's a link. http://www.vanityfair.com/culture/2012/08/travel-mazzorbo-italy-venice

If you can go earlier that might be better. Everywhere is full of tourists and students from end of may on. I'm going on my first Rd scholar trip in a couple of days and will be back in Chicago on 10/5 if you want to talk about it. 415 497 9901

Linda Skisak Sep 17, 2014 at 02:50 PM

I am considering the May 30-June 12 2015 for a first time RS trip for me and my husband. We would be leaving from Chicago. I would appreciate any information or feedback from anyone familiar with this trip.
Linda Huntley Sep 17, 2014 at 06:10 PM

Linda, my husband and I took this trip in early June and hloved it. Wei had great accommodations, fabulous food and wonderful guides. It was our first trip to Italy and we wanted a guided tour that concentrated on art and history. Needless to say, we weren't disappointed. We met wonderful people and had a fabulous time. If you want to talk about it call me at 512-761-3301. I am a native Chicagoan who moved to Texas. Linda Huntley
