See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Christy Smith Jun 15, 2013 at 11:45 PM

Hi, my name is Christy Smith and I am going on the October 12th trip - my first time to Italy and first Road Scholar Trip.
Edward Gazzano Jun 18, 2013 at 07:45 PM

Hi Christy, my name is Ed. I am a retired man living in my hometown of San Francisco. I am going on this trip also with 2 retired friends of mine, Warde and Hadley. This is my 1st RS trip and 2nd time to Italy. I was there 20 years ago and met relatives for the 1st time. Looking forward to this trip, hoping the "moderate" activity level means moderate walking.
Christy Smith Jun 18, 2013 at 08:16 PM

Hi Ed. Thanks for the reply - fun that you have a little group together on the trip. I must be a little thick - not sure which way you mean for the moderate. I have some friends who just returned from Italy on an independent trip and said they walked at least 6 miles a day. I think this trip will be a bit less but it sounds like the cities we are going to are very walkable.

Eva Michalak Jun 10, 2013 at 03:08 PM

Hello, my name is Eva, a Canadian from Toronto, going on the the Sept.11-24 program to Rome/Florence/Venice. Is there any single lady looking for a roommate for this trip?

Rhoda Zagorsky Jun 05, 2013 at 10:21 AM

Hello, my name is Rhoda Zagorsky and my husband and I are going on the September 21 trip to the three Italian cities. We will be flying out of Bawston (Boston). Anyone else going on that trip? Must be someone as the trip is now listed as "wait list".
Anita Farrar Jun 05, 2013 at 11:05 AM

where do you find out it is "wait listed"? Is there a place to find out how many people are registered on each trip?
Rhoda Zagorsky Jun 05, 2013 at 06:01 PM

I just click on the dates of the trip and there is a comment "wait List". I have no idea how many people are on the trip but I guess in the mid 30's

Anita Farrar Jun 01, 2013 at 11:14 AM

My partner & I are also doing the Sept. 29 - Oct 12 trip.It is my first trip with RS & first time in Italy. Packing light will be my first challenge. Looking forward to seeing those 3 beautiful cities. Must get in shape for all the walking & standing though.
June Harris Jun 01, 2013 at 11:33 AM

I found that I could keep my packing fairly light by making everything wearable with everything else. I took all black slacks, tops that went with, and it worked pretty well. I read an article by a gal who traveled a lot in Europe, and who had learned to put two weeks worth of clothing in a carry-on. I'm not that good yet, but I'm working on it.
Anita Farrar Jun 05, 2013 at 11:06 AM

thanks, I will work on packing matching clothes. doubt if I will ever do it all in a carryon

Sandra Tars May 30, 2013 at 08:14 PM

My husband and I are going on the Sept. 25 - Oct. 8 trip -- any others out there on that trip? This will be our first European trip with Road Scholar -- have done the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska & Zion/Bryce/Grand Canyon N. Rim with RS & loved them. Have been reading the Florence book with great anticipation.

Linda Piceno May 30, 2013 at 04:00 PM

My friend and I are signed up for the Italian Classics Trip Sept. 29 - Oct. 12. It's my first trip to Italy and my first RS trip. I am soooo excited! Any advice?
June Harris May 30, 2013 at 04:22 PM

Linda, you'll love it. I found Florence especially fun. My advice: Sit down whenever you get a chance. Wear good walking shoes. If you're especially tired, feel free to skip an event. You can always do it on your own on a free afternoon. And enjoy. It's an adventure.

Mark Woods May 19, 2013 at 10:00 PM

We just returned from the Italian Classics Trip. Be ready for the fact there is a lot of standing. You are on your feet about six hours a day-much standing to discuss sites or art. The hotels and food are very good.
June Harris May 20, 2013 at 10:36 AM

Mark is correct about the standing, so if that's bothersome, grab a chair any time you get a chance. BTW, I thought the lecturers on this trip were particularly good.

Clara McCall May 19, 2013 at 09:05 AM

My husband and I are signed up for the Sept 7-20 "Italian Classics" RS program. Is anyone reading this who will be on that trip?
H.Thomas Klavuhn Jun 01, 2013 at 07:07 PM

H.Thomas Klavuhn Jun 01, 2013 at 07:09 PM

I am going on those dates. Will be there as a single.
Clara McCall Jun 01, 2013 at 09:54 PM

We are traveling wiith a single male from Buffalo, NY. He's been to Italy before, but this is our first time in that country. SO EXCITED!
Diana Phillips Jun 03, 2013 at 01:03 PM

Hi, I'm going on the Sept 7-20th trip as a single and looking forward to meeting everyone! Diana
