I found a series on the Medici who were so prominent in Florence and it is just wonderful. I am more excited about my trip than ever.
Thomas St Clair Apr 30, 2013 at 10:09 PM

We watched that series as well and found it provided some good context. One of the suggested readings for this session is Blue Guide Florence and it's very good. It has a Medici family tree that I found helpful.
Clara Boyer May 01, 2013 at 10:49 AM

Thanks. Are you going on this trip in October?
Thomas St Clair May 13, 2013 at 10:32 AM

No, we went at the end of March and it was wonderful.

Clara Boyer Apr 29, 2013 at 04:10 PM

My name doesn't show up; don't know why. My name is Clara Boyer. Would love to discuss trip with others going.
Nancy Cook Apr 29, 2013 at 04:40 PM

Hi, Clara. Am going in September but hope you have a wonderful time! I'm certainly looking forward to it.

Clara Boyer Apr 29, 2013 at 02:21 PM

I am very excited about the trip to Florence in October. Look forward to meeting all participants.

Nancy Cook Apr 02, 2013 at 07:40 PM

Anyone going to Florence in September?

Thomas St Clair Mar 12, 2013 at 02:28 PM

I don't have an art history background, so I've been doing some informal study to prepare. I find the Khan Acadamy art history videos to be just delightful. I pulled out short videos devoted to seven paintings in the Uffizi and put them together (in rough historical sequence) for easier viewing. The video is here: http://www.screencast.com/t/xjClQhFy. I also put together an interactive timeline of (mostly) Florentine artists of the Renaissance and Mannerist eras. Here's the timeline: http://www.screencast.com/t/NcEBayFkzGcv
Dorothy Szczepaniak Apr 30, 2013 at 03:54 PM

I tried to get to your video at screencast but I was told to get more info from you. When are you going on this trip?
Thomas St Clair Apr 30, 2013 at 10:10 PM

If you copy either of the URLs in my note and paste them into the address bar of your browser, they should take you directly to the video or timeline. For the timeline, click first on one of the names in the list to see the pop-up information about the artists. Click the pop-up to close it and click on another name, etc. I've taken the trip and it exceeded my expectations. Be sure to see the Springtime of the Renaissance at the Strozzi, if you have the chance.

I'm going on this trip in May on my own. Last time I was in Florence, I was 20 on a European tour. I'm looking forward to time to really enjoy the art and architecture of Florence
Lori Rariden Feb 04, 2013 at 12:21 AM

I feel more comfortable about going solo now that I am registered. I will be there the month before you--if I learn any helpful tips I will pass them on!
Nancy Cook Apr 09, 2013 at 11:15 AM

Lori, please let us know what the trip is like. Am going in September. Safe travels!
Lori Rariden Apr 29, 2013 at 03:42 PM

The April trip to Florence was amazing! We had a very small group and got to see so many special sites. Mario knows everything about Florence history, art, etc. You are in for a treat! Be sure to be in good walking shape. Being ready to walk and stand for a long time will help you enjoy your visit.
Nancy Cook May 09, 2013 at 04:13 PM

Ok, well, I guess the treadmill has been a clothes rack for too long. I shall utilize it! Thanks!

Lori Rariden Jan 21, 2013 at 05:56 PM

Hi, Have you gone on the Hidden Treasures of Florence program before? Is the weather in Florence in April unpleasantly cold? Should I add an additional day to get adjusted to the different time zone? Are tourist clothes (jeans) acceptable? How large was your group? Would there be any difficulty coming by myself? thanks Lori R
