What category of stateroom can one expect on this cruise?
Emily Moore Aug 08, 2015 at 01:38 AM

just checked the pricing options. I see there are choices.
Carole Colley Aug 10, 2015 at 06:15 PM

If it makes any difference, Category 4 and 5 can only be reached by stairs - not the whole way - just the last level. The fixed windows are just above the waterline but there are no waves to speak of. I was on the Amacerto in May, these two listed aren't the same ship but I would suspect the design is the same. Hope this helps.
Judy Karnes Sep 13, 2015 at 10:56 AM

have lung issues which cause me problems walking a lot uphill or climbing more than one flight of stairs without taking a rest, can I handle this trip? Also I;m a single and I don't want much free time alone.
Carole Colley Sep 13, 2015 at 11:25 AM

On the ship there are elevators to every level but the lowest 'waterline' cabins and the sundeck. There were a couple of times - with the ships lined up 2 or 3 deep - we were required to climb to the sundeck and cross over to the next ship and back down. The other times we just crossed through the lobby. I only missed one city - Bamberg Germany - where the up and down would have been too much -bad knees. The group leaders are very good and can tell you what kind of terrain to expect each day. There isn't that much free time - other than when cruising, except in the evenings. The ship has plenty of entertainment and we usually parked within walking distance of downtown. There were quite a few singles on our trip and everyone seemed to have company whenever they wanted it. The walking pace is not fast and there is usually time to look around on your own at the places visited. Public toilets were no more than one flight down.I wouldn't have missed it for the world. Is this enough information?
Carole Colley Sep 13, 2015 at 11:28 AM

Actually that should be one elevator - and usually I was the only one on the ship using it.
Carole Colley Sep 13, 2015 at 11:40 AM

Do you have a problem with cigarette smoke? The outside public areas have quite a few smokers around.

My husband and I will be taking this cruise departing May 10, followed by the Bupdapest-Istanbul cruise departing June 6. We will arrive in Amsterdam May 6, and departing Istanbul June 24. Anyone else out there doing any of the same?
Carole Colley Apr 08, 2015 at 01:22 PM

I will be coming early for the Apr 27 Tulipmania, with 2 days inbetween the programs, I will be joining you at the airport [early departure - 9 am]. I'm looking forward to meeting you both, I'm a single.
Carole Colley Apr 09, 2015 at 09:49 AM

That date of the airport meet is May 11, just in case you didn't realize I would be on the Amsterdam - Budapest cruise with you, along with the earlier Tulip tour. When I reread my comment it was kind of ambiguous as to my plans.

How did your iPad and android phone chargers work? Do I need an adapter on the ship? Also Canon camera chargers. Most are 110/220. Thanks.
Ed Bolson Sep 16, 2014 at 11:26 PM

Julie, I actually brought a 6 outlet surge protected power strip that had special sockets that handled both European AND US plugs. I also got European plug adapters and used one to plug the power strip into an outlet in the cabin (actually had to remove a lamp, then plug the lamp into my power strip). All of my chargers are dual voltage. There was also ONE US socket (behind the TV!) in my cabin on the AmaCerto. Hope that helps!
Ed Bolson Sep 16, 2014 at 11:27 PM

Oh, and you will really love this trip (weather permitting, of course :)

Anyone leaving from Dulles(DC),June 15 at 5:25 pm on United?

Elizabeth Golden Apr 18, 2014 at 05:52 PM

Hi Mary, I live on Cape Cod (Sandwich), where are you going to be ? Maybe we could get together ! Beth
Mary Falwell Apr 18, 2014 at 09:07 PM

We'll be in Chatham around Mothers Day or day later. We can touch base then...meet for coffee or something

Elizabeth Golden Apr 17, 2014 at 07:35 PM

Hi Susan & Mary, I am on British Airways, it leaves at the same time but I go thru London. I believe for international departures there is not one terminal you just leave from whatever airline you are flying, so I will not be able to meet you in Boston. I have never been on a river cruse so this is very exciting!!! Beth
Mary Falwell Apr 18, 2014 at 09:30 AM

We should all be in terminal E but you'd be at a different gate. Perhaps there's a food court we could meet at. This is our 1st river cruise also. We did a Windstar down the Amalfi coast but my husband is not a cruise person. He's not counting this as a cruise!

Susan Ried Apr 17, 2014 at 02:21 PM

Hi, Mary and Beth- I am also on Delta. Transportation to the pier is provided for you. I booked independently although i can hop on the bus if the timing is right. In Paris in September on my RS trip, we had to wait two hours for everyone's flights. Our time in Amsterdam is too valuable so make take the train into town. Apparently, quite convenient. Have made my list of things to do in a very short amount of time, including what buses to take from the pier for the Rijksmuseum. Always leave from Atlanta for Europe - does Boston have an international departure terminal? My daughter (Hingham) will be dropping me at Logan. We should get in touch shortly before we leave. Getting excited. Sue/Sarasota
Mary Falwell Apr 18, 2014 at 09:10 AM

Boston does have International terminal. It's last one at airport. B
Mary Falwell Apr 18, 2014 at 09:13 AM

Sorry, didn't finish. Its terminal E I believe. Would love to get your thoughts on Amsterdam and agree with you, would rather not wait and use up precious time. We're leaving for Cape Cod in 2 weeks, maybe we could meet or talk prior to then. Mary/ St Pete

Mary Falwell Apr 16, 2014 at 05:46 PM

We're on Delta flying out of Logan on June 15th at 7:15pm arrive Amsterdam at 8:15am. Looks like several of us we be there via different airlines around the same time. Does Road Scholar meet us or do we just meet at the ship?
