I am on the May 28 Hiking Cotswolds & Cornwall. Can anyone give me some advice as to what to pack for clothing...waterproof hiking gear? what I might need for warmth. Also... what about a day pack? guess it might be good to have that? I have different sizes..small/large? Thanks... Linda

I've signed up for the July 9-22 trip. Anyone else out there signed up for that one?

Laura Blatt Apr 03, 2013 at 12:13 AM

I'm on the May 7--23 Cotwolds/Cornwall walking trip. Received "pre-hike" information in an email from Road Scholar, which indicated that I would get luggage tags and final information in a week. That was almost 4 weeks ago, but my phone calls to Road Scholar indicate that they are still planning. Anyone else receive any final information yet?

I'm looking forward to the June 25 trip to the Cotswolds and Cornwall. Thanks for the tip about the poles. I'll put them aside with all the other things I'm accumulating.

Linda Goodman Mar 11, 2013 at 04:31 PM

On the Cotswold trip are low hiking shoes sufficient or are mid hiking shoes(protecting the ankles) more preferable?
James Slack Mar 11, 2013 at 05:30 PM

Most folks had mid-height shoes. Some were happy with low shoes. One even had very lightweight shoes. I liked my mid-height shoes.

For the Cotswolds section, poles are not necessary. But for the Cornwall part, you absolutely want poles. Do remember that there are collapsible poles that will fit in a decent sized suitcase.

I will be participating on the May 28 to June 10 trip. How essential are hiking poles for the Cotswolds and Cornwall hiking? I like using poles but sure would prefer NOT to have to pack them, especially as I will be staying an additional two weeks in Europe after the end of the Road Scholar program, mainly in Germany--this includes a week of biking.
Carol Braun Feb 15, 2013 at 10:46 AM

I spent 2 wks. in another area of England prior to the hiking tour which did not require poles but sure am glad I packed one for the cotswold/Cornwall tour primarily in Cornwall where the hiking was more difficult. Carol Ann

Hi Linda, the trip was everything I expected as far as the sights and the guides expertise, they were terrific. I was there the end of May/first part of June and unfortunately experienced several days of rain and cold temps. Walks or hikes were between 3-5 hrs a day, one day it was 7 hrs. Lunch and browsing afterwards, with relaxation prior to dinner. The countryside is everthing one expects, quaint and beautiful. We had a great fun group ages ranged from mid 50 to over 80 and everyone was able to do the hikes. Hope you have a wonderful time. Carol Ann
