While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

We are going on the April 13th trip and wonder who else is going. We are retired educators and live in Jackson, WY. It will be our first Road Scholar trip. Pat and Greg Best

Hi. We're planning to go next May and would like to hear comments about the weather and level of difficulty. We're in good shape and used to hiking in the hills but we're not mountain goats. What was the hardest thing you had to do?

Roy Rosenthal May 24, 2010 at 10:57 AM

My wife and I are planning to take this trip in September, would love to hear from anyone who took it in April. Would also like to communicate with anyone who will be with us in September.

Apparantly April participants rated it at 4 stars, whould like to know what that is all about.

I have just discovered this trip on the web-site, and it seems to satisfy my interest in Chinese culture, rather than a river cruise. Did you ever learn why is has only a 4 star rating? I am interested in the September trip.
Roy Rosenthal Jul 18, 2010 at 01:52 PM

Hannah, I'm glad that you are interested. Our interest is the same as yours. We also would rather spend time on land so we can maximize our experience of Chinese culture. I've been hoping that someone who took the trip this spring would post a review but these boards are not very active, so I can only guess about the 4 star rating. They are changing the itinarary starting next spring. They are eliminating Hong Kong, reducing Xi'an by one day, adding nights in Liping and Chongqing and adding a 3 day river cruise. We go to Liping but fly out the same day. Overall next years trip is one more day. Maybe we are in the minority and some of the participants said they wanted a river cruise. Also, maybe 4 nights in Xi'an (including the family stay) was not the best use of time. Maybe they wished to spend more time within China and not stop in Hong Kong. Anyway, my wife and I are very excited about this trip and prefer the intinarary that we will be taking. We haven't been to Hong Kong, so we don't mind stopping there. I wouldn't mind one less day in Xi'an and one more day in rural China but no trip is perfect. By the way, have you heard about the world Expo currently being held in Shanghai until October? I expect to take an afternoon to take a look at it. Maybe we will see you in China!
