This was a wonderful week in a beautiful spot. Blackbird Caye is part of the Turneffe Atoll. Accommodations are in very simple beachside cabins only about six feet from the water. Meals are taken in an enclosed beachside dining room/gathering place. The dolphin helpers go out in a boat from 9 am to 12noon, have lunch and a rest, and go out again from 2-5 pm. You will mainly help the researcher plot your location (latitude and longitude). That's what my job was. Others help him with underwater cameras and recording instruments, and everyone scans the water for dolphin sightings. None of us went into the water with the dolphins on my trip, but we did learn a lot about them both on the water and with videos and lectures back at the resort. There is a big dive resort jut down the beach, where you can walk to their over-the-water bar and get a margarita or other tropical drink. That's fun to do. You can also bring your own liquor/wine and keep it in the cooler. I would recommend bringing lots of snacks, nuts, cheese, granola bars, crackers, whatever you like. The food is plentiful, but sometimes not too appealing, so I found myself wishing I had a can of tuna or something. No TV, radio, newspapers, it's wonderful. You will have a couple of opportunities to snorkel from the dolphin boat, very beautiful and easy. Moderate swimming ability is fine. No need to swim underwater unless you want to. I would go back for a repeat experience. Think you would enjoy.

My husband and I are considering the Belize Dolphin tracking program. Has anyone experienced this and would tell us more about it? Do you need to be a strong swimmer?...Need to swim underwater? Thanks.

I'm going on the Oct. 27th trip and would like to contact other travelers. Please get in touch.
Thansk.
