I would like to take this trip in May 2014. I have not registered yet but trust RS to do their best to keep us safe. This has always been a "bucket list" trip for me and at a healthy 66, I feel it is time to do it, even if it is alone. I have done "alone" before and found that others on the tour are great to be inclusive. I would appreciate any advice.

I was lucky to go on this trip in October of 2012 - there were 9 of us, and it was an amazine and stunning country. My comments on the trip, plus some from other members, are below. Don't miss if if you can possibly get there. I am so sorry for their current troubles as everyone was so nice to us, and friendly.

Thank you so much! I truly hope it will be possible for the tours to resume.

I find it truly amazing that people still seem
to be going on trips to Egypt with RS. I was going in Febr 2013 whIch was cAncelled, I re enrolled for Oct 2013. Which was cancelled too.
I don't think I'll re enroll again.

Hello. I am hoping to do this trip in September 2014 and am a single woman. Would be interested in knowing if any other women might want to consider a roommate. There are some single rooms too. Also am very interested in reports of those who have taken this trip.

This was one of the best RS trips I've taken (Feb 2013) and I've done quite a few. I am a single 75 year old and f found that as always, the group was made up of singles and couples and all were welcoming and inclusive. Our guide, Waleed , was fabulous: very knowledgeable and very aware of our safety and security. I hope you get him in September. For more comments, see the reviews I and others posted once we got home.

Hi Joy, I traveled to Eygpt w/ RS last November 2013, and it was a wonderful experience! There were only 6 travelers on our tour; two doctors w/wives, one "gentle"man, & me (married, retired school teacher.) I was able to afford single accomodations, which was so nice. The ancient sites were beyond my expectations, just incredible! Our RS guide, speakers, drivers & guards were SO nice & professional! Of course the modern day poverty & political turmoil was evident everywhere, but the ancient sites were well cared for and incredible! The Egyptian people were friendly & politely desperate for our tourist $$!! Overall, I had a fabulous experience - it's just an incredible place! By all means GO! Best wishes, Sarah (from OR)

Alice and Sarah, thank you so much for taking the time to write your comments. I am very encouraged. It sounds wonderful. I'm grateful for your time in writing about your experiences. I wil look at the other comments too, as you note, Alice. All best, Joy (in Florida)

This a "Wishlist" trip for me, hopefully. I've travelled in Northern Ireland, and I was with the Peace Corps in Colombia while there were troubles in both places. I'd go to Egypt now if I weren't taking a different trip. RS wouldn't take you near any demonstration areas, and you won't be walking around at night. I think it'd be like visiting any large US city, -be aware and cautious.

I would love to do this trip in Feb. but I'm worried about the activity level (active) I've had a knee replacement and though I can walk very far I'm not very fast. Does anyone who's been on the trip have a suggestion.
Alice Engelman Oct 21, 2013 at 01:53 PM

I did this trip in Feb 2013. Lots of walking on uneven surfaces, including stairs. There are sites where you have time to linger and go slowly to savor the statues, exhibits, etc. I suggest you call RS to further discuss walking speed. Whatever, I highly recommend taking a walking pole. It gives one stability.

Anyone canceling Sept. 2013 trip to Egypt? Appears to dangerous to go.
John Fleckles Jul 17, 2013 at 10:31 PM

I'm thinking about it and would also like to know if others have cancelled.
Godwin Wong Jul 18, 2013 at 03:25 PM

I think Road Scholars wants to wait until September to decide. It all depends if Mursi's Brotherhood will have a say in the new government. If they do not yield, it could be civil war. Road Scholar representative said it is still on, and assures our safety. Famous last words.

Thank you! That is exactly what I wanted to know. Nancy Dunn
