Hi. My wife and I are signed up for the Jan 25 - Feb 8, 2016 trip. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how much cash to bring? I realize that most of the trip will be in the bush but we are staying at various camps and lodges. I assume that they have wine or beer to have at dinner and we like a glass or two after a long day. Any help would be appreciated. Peter

I'm going on Aug. 19, and would like some opinion myself. I'l post an answer when I retrun.
Patricia Rice Jul 18, 2015 at 04:00 PM

To the two Peters. We don't drink, but I remember a coke at the bar being pretty expensive. So I would take lots of money if you are going to drink at the lodges. You will also need money for items to bring home. There is lots of opportunity to buy that on your trip. However, we found that waiting until you are back in Nairobi is the best place to find everything you might like to bring home. And then you don't have to carry it around with you on the trip either. You will want to dicker with the merchants in the bush, but you won't be able to do that in the City. If you like drinking wine every night, I would see about buying it in the town, by the bottle, that you pass through if you have to stop. We stopped in several cities on our trip. Talk to your guide about this. They will be familiar with brands, and cost.

Thanks Peter. I'm looking forward to you input.

We are on the 8/31-9/14 trip. We are from a small rural town in Michigan. We think there are six on this trip and would like to hear from and about the people that will be on this adventure with us!

Peter Sylvester Jun 20, 2015 at 04:03 PM

I'm on the 8/19-9/2 tour. I'm interested writing to anyone taking the same trip. If you'd to write - send a post.

I have booked the trip for Sept. 14 to the 28th. Traveling alone and looking for a female roommate. I'm not much of a talker but am ready for an adventure. I am a retired elementary teacher and librarian.

This is truly an adventure for us. We are not world travelers but this is on the top of the bucket list!. Tom & Janie McCartney
