Would love to hear from you who recently went on this program as a friend and I will be going in early March 2016. Wondering about need for women to be covered from head to toe and if so, any tips are appreciated.
Susan Bauer Nov 25, 2015 at 03:07 PM

Wear whatever is comfortable for you to walk, stand, and sit over the course of a day. Wear/bring layers as temperatures vary from place to place and on the bus--sun side or no sun side. Most women in my group wore long pants (jeans are okay) or capris. A few, myself included, wore a dress or skirt occasionally because I like them, not because I had to. A scarf is a good idea if you do go in a mosque that requires women to cover their heads, but I never had to use mine for that. You will find that Morocco is a very progressive country, particularly in the cities, so "reasonable" western clothing is worn just about everywhere by both western visitors as well as modern Moroccans themselves. You will LOVE the trip, especially if your tour leader is Nabil. The most important thing is to go with an open mind to learn about Morocco and the Muslim religion in this very diverse country. Have fun!

Relieved to finally receive some info about his trip. I have never before traveled this far on my own and was getting quite nervous. Pleased to hear your voices and appreciate any and all tips and suggestions..

I looked at many of the hotels online and most have a pool. And looking at the weather forecast for Marrakesh, it can get in the 80s. So in goes a swimsuit into my bag which means something else has to go. I wonder what will that be?

Dorie Westlund Sep 27, 2015 at 06:33 AM

I was on this trip last November It was fabulous! We did stay at one hotel where there was a lovely pool and I did go for a swim.
melinda kough Sep 27, 2015 at 10:17 AM

thanks for the info. i am very excited to begin this adventure!

melinda kough Sep 26, 2015 at 10:09 PM

inquiring of those who have already taken this RS trip: is it advisable to bring a swimsuit? were there opportunities for swimming?
Judith Blango Sep 26, 2015 at 11:19 PM

I was in Morocco 3 years ago. I'm bringing a swimsuit just in case there is some downtime for swimming.

Susan Bauer Sep 20, 2015 at 06:19 PM

I don't know about anyone else, but I am getting pretty excited about this up-coming adventure. My partner Doug and I traveled on a Rick Steves' tour to Istanbul a year ago, and that is the most "exotic" place we've been. And I was in Morocco in 1970 when I was MUCH younger and crazier! I doubt if anything will look even remotely familiar. Plus we stayed to mostly the big cities although we did hitchhike to get there. Travel by motor coach sounds much more comfortable at this stage in my life. What are others' experiences?
melinda kough Sep 20, 2015 at 07:27 PM

i have traveled a fair amount, but this is my first time to morocco. looking forward to it tremendously.

melinda kough Sep 08, 2015 at 12:39 AM

i've been told by a travel health clinic that the cdc recommends typhoid and hep A/B immunizations for morocco. is anybody else planning to get these vaccines?
Judith Blango Sep 08, 2015 at 05:25 AM

I had the typhoid shot in 2009 when I went to Ghana and it's good for 10 years. But I don't think that it's really needed. Hep vaccines are always good to have.
melinda kough Sep 08, 2015 at 09:31 AM

my typhoid and hep A/B were in 2004, for china. will see if need to redo. thanks!
Susan Bauer Sep 20, 2015 at 12:36 AM

I got both of them--oral typhoid series and shots for Hep A & B.
Susan Bauer Sep 20, 2015 at 12:40 AM

Both shopts are on the CDC list for the places we will be traveling to in Morocco.
melinda kough Sep 20, 2015 at 11:04 AM

i have an appt w/ the travel nurse tomorrow morning -- will update all vaccines plus annual flu shot.
Judith Blango Sep 20, 2015 at 03:16 PM

Glad you reminded me about typhoid vaccine. I need to get a booster shot.
Susan Bauer Sep 20, 2015 at 06:13 PM

I did the oral typhoid that was a series of pills over the course of a week. As for the Hep A and B, that is a series of two shots, a month apart. Obvioulsy you won't be able to do both shots before you leave, but most likely you can get the second shot after you return. WHile I don't know your age, this may aor may not be relevant, but Medicare does NOT cover the travel shots--only the flu shot. Your secondary insurance may cover them, however. Again, if this applies to you.
Judith Blango Sep 20, 2015 at 06:18 PM

I'm over 65 and still working. My insurance covered all my hep shots.
melinda kough Sep 20, 2015 at 07:28 PM

hmm, never occurred to me to submit these charges to my insurance -- thanks for the good idea! i will definitely do that.
melinda kough Sep 20, 2015 at 07:32 PM

i had the hep a/b in 2004, so i may not need the entire series again (it was three shots) -- hopefully just a booster. will ask about the oral typhoid -- i see that it remains effective longer than the injection. i am 61, so medicare is not relevant, but my insurance may pay for them, as it does for my flu shot.
