I am interested in this trip for 2014. There is only one review, which was helpful, but I wonder about weather in the summer months (heat, rain, wind)and also how many participants there were.

For any solo travelers: are the single, inside cabins comfortable?

Any particular highlights?

Thank you.

I haven't been on Voyages to Antiquity, but the reviews of the ship say its very comfy, and of course there is air-conditioning. It will be really hot, and I would not want an inside cabin. Feels claustrophobic. I've got a single with a window. Figure I can go on deck for fresh air, but at least there will be light coming in...RS usually keeps groups small, like 20-30. Ship of course carries many more.

road scholar and travelers: what is your position about the Istanbul/Black Sea trip re the current political announcements. thanks Dolores Poth
Katharine Wexler Feb 13, 2014 at 12:24 AM

I do have misgivings. I'm hoping not to enrich the Turkish or Russian governments by being a tourist. However, I think Voyages to Antiquity is an Italian company...Not quite as evil. Are you worried about physical safety? I think Road Scholar generally does a great job of scoping out possible threats and avoiding...

my comments were made last summer when they were having riots in I stanbul. That trip was in sept. '13. Voyages To Antiquity trips are wonderful - I highly recommend them. I believe it is an English company. I traveled with them in 2011. And I agree about Road Scholar being very careful.

Is anyone else on UA Flight 9298 from Munich? I'll look for you at the gate.
Anyone on flight UA 132 from Dulles to Munich?

Is anyone going on the Voyages to Antiquity Black Sea trip Aug 28 - Sept 12, connecting through Amsterdam?

Would love to hear from anyone signed up for the July 14 voyage. This is our third Road Scholar trip and we are really looking forward to it.
Evelyne Marwood Jun 28, 2013 at 12:20 AM

Also looking forward to July 14 voyage. Second time to Istanbu. First to Black Sea. This is my third or fourth Road Scholar trip.
Katharine Wexler Feb 13, 2014 at 12:26 AM

I'm also on for July 14.. Actually, the booklet from RS says July 15...
Katharine Wexler Feb 13, 2014 at 12:28 AM

...Looking forward to meeting you all. Traveling by myself from LA. Hope RS arranges reasonable route, since the airfare is included, and we don't have a choice. Looking forward to seeing Sochi as well as Istanbul
