Any going on the September 4th trip? If you are, do you know how many are going on our trip? Also, we have a very small window between when we land and when we are supposed to be picked up at the Amsterdam airport. If you are familiar with Road Scholar, maybe you know what we should do if we arrive late -- do they usually wait or will we have to find our own way to the hotel? Excited that it's now under a month till we depart for Amsterdam! Sandy M.

Relax and let them show you what fab.guides they are .They know when you're arriving ,and will be there .
Karen France Aug 07, 2015 at 08:40 PM

Without any Customs in Amsterdam, you grab your luggage and head to the main open area, and there you will find a person with a Road Scholar sign waiting for you! It's so well organized you will not need to worry.

Anyone else going on October 30?

Hello! We are going on the September trip. Thought others might enjoy this article about a Rembrandt painting from the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/06/09/arts/international/lifting-doubt-over-a-rembrandt.html?_r=0

Hi! For those back from the spring trips: Any lessons learned to share - things you wish you'd seen or skipped, things you wish you'd packed, etc. Appreciate it. This will be the longest trip we've ever done - very excited already, even though we don't go till September.
Luis and Myn Gloria May 30, 2015 at 05:41 PM

Two items we wished we have packed include a folding walking cane and a folding umbrella or light hooded raincoat. A light, comfortable walking shoes is a big help for the amount of walking you have to do. Don;t forgot to pack some cold or cough relief medications just in case, but pain relief medicines will be helpful. There were some members in our group that came down with bad cold and cough. I recommend wearing money belt for men or anti theft bag for women (you can buy it at Amazon). The hotel safe is a good place to leave your valuables and just bring enough cash on hand or maybe 1 debit or credit card. Have a safe enjoyable trip. That was our first trip and enjoyed it very much. You will be under guidance by 3 qualified people, Franz, Balasz and Amale.

I'm going on the May 29th trip and will be arriving on the 27th to get in some extra sightseeing. Hope to meet some other early arrivals!

We received a form letter from Road Scholar emphasizing the amount of walking & use of public transportation (which, I admit, I didn't realize) on this trip. We are not going till September. I'd love to hear from folks after they go about whether they felt the walking and use of public transportation was difficult or unpleasant. Thank you.
Ellen Marks Apr 28, 2015 at 01:48 PM

We are on this trip right now in Amsterdam. Public transportation is very easy to handle. There is a lot of walking on uneven streets, and inside buildings and museums there is a fair amount of walking, including staircases. If you are in fairly good shape you will be fine; if you are unsteady on your feet or not used to walking, perhaps not. ALSO, we highly recommend going in a day or two early to see some things in AMS that aren't covered on the trip, and also to help with jet lag. We started a week prior to our trip going to bed 30-45 minutes earlier and getting up 30-45 minutes earlier, so that we were much better accustomed to the six hour time difference. It worked!

Thank you for the information. Since we still work, we won't be flying out early. However, we are in good shape and can manage stairs, etc. I appreciate your taking the time to write - I, too, worry about fitting in everything that isn't on the itinerary! Enjoy every moment!

We are Karen & Rick from Ohio going on the July 10 - 23 trip. Anyone else? This will be our 3rd RS trip but first time in Amsterdam, etc.

We look forward to meeting you. Any chance flying out of Chicago on July 10 to get to Amsterdam?
Cathy Reed Jun 15, 2015 at 04:27 PM

We are flying over a few days early and leaving from BWI, so won't see you prior to our start of the tour, but look forward to meeting you then.
