We traveled with RS to the Galapagos two years ago and had a wonderful trip. Our boat was the Galavan -which I believe held around 24 passengers. The boat was fine -- no complaints at all -- and our guide was excellent. At all times we felt that Road Scholar had obtained the best guides, was well organized, and was on top of everything. Our return flight from the islands to the mainland was delayed (not the fault of RS), and RS stepped in and handled all of the resulting challenges amazingly well. It was our first Road Scholar trip, and based on our experiences on that trip, we traveled with RS again last year and have scheduled another trip with RS for this fall. Our experience was terrific.

I am interested in this trip -- BUT some of the negative reviews on the review page have me questioning it. I realize that many folks had excellent experiences, but several excursions were not as successful.
Would someone from RS (or anyone) kindly respond to the reviews of the awful conditions of the boats, onboard illness, lack of educational experiences? Thanks!

Can't give enough positive feedback about my May trip on the Seaman Journey. Lovly ship...much knowledge..good food.... It was great! They even handed out seasickness pills when the ocean currents were expected to be challenging!

Helen Ross Aug 31, 2015 at 05:03 PM

Anyone headed there on the Nov 8th program?

Pam Moor Jun 20, 2015 at 09:04 PM

Anyone headed to Galapagos on July 5th?
MATTHEW CITRON Jun 26, 2015 at 09:32 AM

We'll be aboard the Galaven.

Nancy Patton Apr 19, 2015 at 03:04 PM

Anyone headed to the Galapagos trip aboard the Seaman Journey on May 6th? We're arriving a day earlier on the 4th in Quito?
Helen Ross Aug 29, 2015 at 07:35 PM

SInce you went a day earlier, did you book your own airfare and hotel for that extra night? How was the transfer from the airport to the hotel? We are on the Nov 8 trip and want to arrive a day earlier as well.
Nancy Patton Sep 01, 2015 at 05:35 PM

Hi Helen...I booked the extra day, hotel, and air fare through Holbrook Travel,Inc. which is connected with Road Scholar at 800-866-7111. They were excellent all around! My May trip was very challenging but filled with glorious memories!

We got notified yesterday that the Galavan will still be in dry dock for the March 8th trip so we have been move to the M/V Legend. That is a much bigger boat. Has anyone traveled on the Legend? If so, what was your experience?
Karla Guyn Mar 04, 2015 at 11:47 PM

Ugh...we are scheduled on the March 22 trip. The Legend looks like a 100 passanger ship...not exactly the experience I am looking for...

Susan Berger Feb 24, 2015 at 11:06 AM

Did you need to reserve a wet suit in advance or were there enough available on the boat?
Sandy Smith Feb 24, 2015 at 07:14 PM

I reserved one in advance because I am so small However, those who didn't were able to get them onboard anyway. If you own flippers, take your own. They have them but many were old and i couldn't find any that fit. We were on the Yolita II though.

Cal Tax Feb 24, 2015 at 08:41 AM

The rental wetsuits are $40. For $70 we bought our own and know they will fit and function. Cheap insurance and no disappointments.
Sandy Smith Feb 24, 2015 at 07:18 PM

You are right, Cal. I wish I had known that before we went.
