I'm wondering about treating clothing with permethrin. I have malaria prevention medication to take and DEET insect repellant. Is the additional protection of spraying clothes necessary? Does anyone have experience with this?
Maureen Hutchinson May 16, 2015 at 01:08 PM

I tried wearing a permethrin coated safari shirt and sensitivity t the substance made it impossible for me. I did fine with the malaria pills and the DEET repellant. Many of your beds will have mosquito nets on them. I think you will do fine with just the pills and the repellant.

Thanks so much, Maureen - very helpful!

Anyone going on the May 22 trip? I leave from Denver, fly through Dulles to Johannesburg. Looking forward to every minute!

I am leaving 4/24 how much cash and in what denominations id recommended? Any last minute advice from others as need to bring and know?
Karen Petras Apr 21, 2015 at 12:18 PM

The amount of money you bring is, of course, individual. Do you want to buy things to bring back? There will be a few oportunities to do that. Do you want to buy drinks at the bar in the lodges (including the encampment)? Exact change is appreciated. In my experience in third world countries they like new and next to new bills. Do you plan on using a credit card for purchases? Having said this, I suggest 1's, 5's, and 10's and perhaps a few 20's. The problem is that cash becomes very bulky. There will be safes in our rooms at the lodges. Hope this helps. See you there!
