Hello, My husband and I are enrolled in the Oct program. Anyone from California going?
Nancy Ebbert Oct 17, 2015 at 01:26 AM

Yes! My husband and I, from Berkeley. Where in CA are you?

Della Shane Sep 17, 2015 at 05:21 PM

Melanie: Sasha Lodge will provide rain boots for hiking at the Amazon. You'll be glad you have those. I agree with Barbara's insights. You will LOVE this trip.
Barbara Gallagher Sep 17, 2015 at 11:45 PM

i forgot about that. The boots are those high grren rubber boots.

Melanie Bussard Sep 15, 2015 at 04:17 PM

Are hiking boots, walking shoes or both best for this trip to Ecuador?
Barbara Gallagher Sep 16, 2015 at 10:49 AM

It depends on your specific support needs, I found good light weight sneakers worked well even at Sacha Lodge. in the cities you are walking on sidewalks. I did this trip 2 years ago and it was exeptional, loved it.
Melanie Bussard Sep 16, 2015 at 11:05 AM

Thanks so much for the advice and comments on the trip. Did you rely on bottled water and was a supply provided in your rooms? That was my experience on other trips but I don't want to make inaccurate assumptions.
Barbara Gallagher Sep 16, 2015 at 03:23 PM

bottled water is supplied for participants all the time, in the rooms, on the bus, etc.

Marjory Luther Aug 21, 2015 at 04:25 PM

volcano? Hopefully it will not jeopardize the trip. It's a good one esp Sacha Lodge. Airline might have some good info. Marjory Luther
Della Shane Aug 21, 2015 at 06:55 PM

Sacha Lodge was WONDERFUL. Very fave part of the trip.

Melanie Bussard Aug 20, 2015 at 08:14 PM

Does the current volcano activity jeopardize this trip?
Marjory Luther Aug 21, 2015 at 04:22 PM

Which volcano? The airline prob can give you more info.marjory luther
Della Shane Aug 21, 2015 at 06:55 PM

Ecuador has many volcanos, I don't know if there's an issue today. You might check with the Secretary of State's web site.

I'm leaving Saturday from Miami Quito at 9am. Anyone else on that flight.

I have enjoyed South America-- be aware of the high altitude though.
Debra King Feb 06, 2015 at 07:07 PM

What about the high altitude should I be most wary of?

Debra King Feb 05, 2015 at 10:17 PM

I've just signed up for the Oct/15 trip and am really excited. I live in Cambridge, Ontario and have never travelled to South America before. This will be quite the adventure, I'm sure.
