I should have included MY name in my posted question about the 8-20th Sept! I am Laurie and my husband is Robert (Bob)! We are excited to be able to explore a new area of the world! Laurie

Robert Barrett Aug 23, 2015 at 07:55 PM

My husband and I plan to go on the 8-20th Sept. Anyone else going then?

Clara McCall Aug 18, 2015 at 09:40 AM

Chuck and I are going on the Nov. 4-16 trip. Anyone else on the discussion board scheduled for that one? We're coming from Chicago, and we let Road Scholar handle our air travel reservations.
We are scheduled to arrive at the San Jose airport at 9:13PM the evening of the first day (Nov. 4). Has anyone else had such a late arrival time?
Pete Wilbur Aug 18, 2015 at 10:52 AM

Are you flying from Chicago direct or spending the night in Florida or Texas and then going on from there. Sounds like you leave early from Chicago and go right through to Costa Rica. I leave Los Angeles at 8:30 AM and arrive 4:30 PM. What is your schedule rom Chicago?

Pete Wilbur Aug 17, 2015 at 12:46 PM

Just discovered Alaska Airlines flies from Los Angeles to Costa Rica 5 days per week. The arrival and departure dates match so got to use frequent flyer miles. Thanks for the Frogg Toggs tip. I'll be ordering from Amazon.

Just signed up for the December 7, 2015 trip. Coming from Davis, California. I will be watching this board for tips on travel in Costa Rica. Sounds like I need to get to REI for a good poncho. I also read on the reviews that laundry is best done on about the 5th day. I plan on having RS do my air plans. Would Sacramento or San Francisco through Houston Texas to CR be the best route? I know Miami is the main gateway.
This is my 17th Elderhostel / Road Scholar trip and have never had a bad one. Thanks.
Anne Tracy Aug 17, 2015 at 08:29 PM

REI has great ponchos. Sarapiqui Lodge had great laundry service.

I am getting ready for the September 18th trip? So in order to pack, what size luggage did you use? Any packing tips???
Mary Vanderpool Aug 14, 2015 at 06:53 PM

Most of us had a 22x14x9 luggage and a backpack or carry bag. Take things that dry easily (also a small detergent). Wish I'd packed less than I did!

Robert Rhude Aug 06, 2015 at 04:37 PM

My wife Judy and I will be participating in the Sept. 18 trip. We are looking forward to it. At this point we have one question: Is the electric current the same there as here in the U.S. or will a converter be required to charge my camera batteries?

We just returned from the July 14-26 trip. It was wonderful. The power everywhere is just like the USA. No problems, just remember your charger. You may want a spare battery. I took over 1500 pictures (most were spectacular).

Evonne Agnello Aug 03, 2015 at 11:05 AM

I'm going on two back to back Costa Rica trips: Nov. 3-9, Walking and Wellness and Nov. 9-21, The Best of Costa Rica. Would love to hear from my potential travel buddies.
Joan Tracey Aug 12, 2015 at 02:34 PM

I look forward to meeting you on Nov. 9Th. It will be my first trip to cental america and I can't wait!
