Sandra Smith Mar 18, 2013 at 05:30 PM

Emily - are you on the April 5 program?

I'm scheduled to take this program starting April 5. Anyone out there going along on that date?

John Tobler III Jan 02, 2013 at 03:25 PM

You willl have no trouble and you will absolutley love this trip! The steps have been there for centuries allowing farmers and villagers to climb elevations easier. Did you see my pics on the review page?

I'm very interested in this trip. I'm a hiker and love it-but the way it is described as all steps...could you explain more about the "steps"-I've hiked the Inca Trail in Peru which had steps...and am wondering if this is very different. Could someone please comment? Thanks.

I'm planning on doing this trip on Feb 1. I've been on Road Scholar hiking trips all over the world and found each one to be unique. I've read John Tobler's comments below and will give this one a try. I'm leaving from JFK airport on Feb 1. If you're on this flight, look for me in the waiting area. We'll all have red Road Scholar name tags for our luggage and carryons. If not there, then I'll see you in India. - Peter

To Phyllis - Nepal trekking was a great trip and I would do it again in a heartbeat. Trekking was a challenge but if you are a hiker it should not be too difficult for you especially if you can handle some ups and downs on rocks and concrete steps. Road Scholar can handle any difficulties that might arise (they did for us) Don't hesitate and have fun.
Phyllis Swenson Jan 15, 2013 at 09:22 PM

Thanks, Frances. Two and a half weeks away...am really looking forward to this trip. Will let you know how it goes when I return.

Great explanation of your trip. Much of it sounded like ours (the first trip in Oct.) and I agree that a better explanation of what to expect should be given. You folks lucked ou and went to Dhampos - we could not because of a fire in the Basanta Lodge. I missed that part since I heard much about it before I went.

email me directly with your saga - fmalley@ptd.net Thanks.

Day 5: I do not feel the description of this day was clear either. We started on the road, crossed the hanging, bridge, and heading up steep stairs for two hours reaching Gurung Lodge for lunch. We needed this break. After lunch we continued up for four hours on old washed out roads until we reached Dampus and Basanta Lodge. The panoramic view of the mountains from this lodge was breath-taking!

Day 6: Hiking out to the road to Pokhara was two hours of going down steps.

John Tobler III Nov 17, 2012 at 11:16 AM

Day 4: This was the trek down and we took a different longer trail.(8+ miles and descending 3000 feet) It started out easy on trails through farmland. Near the end, we faced endless steps down that were very steep. My legs felt like rubber, but we made it down. I feel we did this day at too fast a pace and needed more breaks or time to eat a packed lunch somewhere. After getting to the road, we had another half hour to the Lodge where we had a late lunch.
