Hi Alice,
I am flying solo for just the OZ portion. A friend decided to join me on the NZ portion. Road Scholar is looking for a roomate for me on the OZ segment. i guess that we do not know who our roomate will be until we arrive. At least, this is what they are telling me. This ia my sixth trip with Road Scholar. I too love them. My first time for me to travel solo.

Good to see so many folks going to NZ-OZ on the October 22 trip. I am traveling solo and going for the whole month. I am flying out of Atlanta but on the 22nd. Should have enough time to stretch my legs before our flight. Looking forward to meeting all of you and to a great trip. This is my third Road Scholar trip, and I love them. See you soon!

Hi Dick & Rachel,
Sukey ODonnell Sep 24, 2015 at 03:09 PM

My friend Judy and I are leaving Asheville the day before too. We're thinking about going to a botanical garden in LA early on the 22nd since we don't need to be at the airport until 7 pm. Looking forward to meeting you.

My husband Fred Hoffman and I are going on the October 7 - Nov. 7 trip to New Zealand and Australia. We are wondering if there is anyone else from the Wash DC area who is going and wants to go over any questions.

Roz, it looks like my wife Renee(whose maiden name is Hoffman) and I will be spending the month touring with you and Fred. We hope to visit with some Hoffman family members in Melbourne while we are in the neighborhood. We look forward to meeting you and the others on our tour. We will be arriving at LAX from Columbus, Ohio the afternoon of the 8th. See you then.

Hi Annette, I took the NZ-OZ trip last Sept-Oct. Fabulous! I was traveling solo. There were 6 solo women (of 26) in NZ, and 7 (of 32) in OZ. Also, others traveling with a friend. You will not feel alone. If you want a "wine buddy", you will no doubt find one. : )

Annette - I am doing the whole NZ-OZ trip.

MEGAN ONEILL Jul 22, 2015 at 02:10 PM

I am going from Hartford CT on the Odyssey Down Under that leaves Oct 22 from LA. The posts within have been helpful and I hope there will be more of them. Fist time I ever heard of a face net!

Small world Megan, I grew up in Htfd, moved away in 1965! I took this same trip last year, same time and it was aboslutely wonderful. Be prepared for colder weather in Invercargill , including a hat, and gloves. Try to do the layering thing as much as possible and you'll be OK. Just be ready for a great trip , enjoy and just be on time whenever the trip leaders tell you. I flew out to LA the day before and then was relaxed getting on the long flt to NZ and was also assured of being there on time for the flt. Have a great time and ENJOY! This was my first Road Scholar Trip and I hope to go on many more. .

I'm going on the oct 22 trip and am wondering what most women are comfortable wearing: shorts? skirts? trousers? Does everything have to be made of Nylon so you can wash it in the sink?! What other fabrics dry overnight? Do hotels along the way have enough laundry facilities and is there time to do a load? Thanks! Megan
Anne Napier Aug 02, 2015 at 08:08 AM

as I was flying out and used it quiet a bit as airports and planes were cold! Just remember that you have to be able to "drag" your own luggage from the bus into hotels etc . I learned a lot from the seasoned travelers who planned well . One good brimmed collapsible hat is a must and good comfortable walking shoes . Don't worry too much, bring what you think you need and just have a great time. You'll get into the swing of things once you are there and your fellow travelers will be in the same boat , ready to have FUN!!
Anne Napier Aug 02, 2015 at 08:16 AM

SORRY I lost half of the above. Anyway, Ladies wore all that you mentioned and yes, there are laundry facilities at MOST of the hotels and you do have time to do laundry. I brought a pair of long silk underwear and wore them the whole time in the South Island. I did have to buy a scarf before I even left the US ........then follow the above .

How many have to signup for the trip to occur? What's the maximum number allowed?
MARY CLARIDGE Jun 14, 2015 at 02:19 PM

Don't know about minimum, but note for Day 1 says no more than 30 on the road together in either Australia or New Zealand.
