Hi Everyone. I and another woman are going on the October 22 trip out of LA. We're flying in the day before from NC. Looking forward to meeting you all on this trip.
Annette Pavone Sep 01, 2015 at 09:31 PM

Hi Sukey. I am flying solo and my friend will meet me the next day in NZ. She is only doing that particular segment. Looking forward to meeting all the participants/
Sukey ODonnell Sep 01, 2015 at 10:02 PM

Judy and I will meet you at the LA airport then. We're doing all 31 days.

Janice Hoistad Jul 27, 2015 at 10:48 PM

Hi Annette, I took the NZ-OZ trip last Sept-Oct. Fabulous! I was traveling solo. There were 6 solo women (of 26) in NZ, and 7 (of 32) in OZ. Also, others traveling with a friend. You will not feel alone. If you want a "wine buddy", you will no doubt find one. : )

Hi Janice,
MEGAN ONEILL Aug 02, 2015 at 10:55 AM

Annette - I am doing the whole NZ-OZ trip.

MEGAN ONEILL Jul 22, 2015 at 02:10 PM

I am going from Hartford CT on the Odyssey Down Under that leaves Oct 22 from LA. The posts within have been helpful and I hope there will be more of them. Fist time I ever heard of a face net!

Small world Megan, I grew up in Htfd, moved away in 1965! I took this same trip last year, same time and it was aboslutely wonderful. Be prepared for colder weather in Invercargill , including a hat, and gloves. Try to do the layering thing as much as possible and you'll be OK. Just be ready for a great trip , enjoy and just be on time whenever the trip leaders tell you. I flew out to LA the day before and then was relaxed getting on the long flt to NZ and was also assured of being there on time for the flt. Have a great time and ENJOY! This was my first Road Scholar Trip and I hope to go on many more. .

I'm going on the oct 22 trip and am wondering what most women are comfortable wearing: shorts? skirts? trousers? Does everything have to be made of Nylon so you can wash it in the sink?! What other fabrics dry overnight? Do hotels along the way have enough laundry facilities and is there time to do a load? Thanks! Megan
Anne Napier Aug 02, 2015 at 08:08 AM

as I was flying out and used it quiet a bit as airports and planes were cold! Just remember that you have to be able to "drag" your own luggage from the bus into hotels etc . I learned a lot from the seasoned travelers who planned well . One good brimmed collapsible hat is a must and good comfortable walking shoes . Don't worry too much, bring what you think you need and just have a great time. You'll get into the swing of things once you are there and your fellow travelers will be in the same boat , ready to have FUN!!
Anne Napier Aug 02, 2015 at 08:16 AM

SORRY I lost half of the above. Anyway, Ladies wore all that you mentioned and yes, there are laundry facilities at MOST of the hotels and you do have time to do laundry. I brought a pair of long silk underwear and wore them the whole time in the South Island. I did have to buy a scarf before I even left the US ........then follow the above .

How many have to signup for the trip to occur? What's the maximum number allowed?
MARY CLARIDGE Jun 14, 2015 at 02:19 PM

Don't know about minimum, but note for Day 1 says no more than 30 on the road together in either Australia or New Zealand.

Anne Thomson May 16, 2015 at 07:18 PM

The trip I took was the 40th anniversary one (Jan. 2015). I chose that particular trip for the above reason as well as my schedule for the rest of the spring. We had gorgeous weather (rain in Wellington for about one hour, and that was it for rain). It was hot in the Outback and Cairns, but I'm from Florida so the heat didn't bother me. Just book the trip that works best for you, and let the weather take care of itself. We had 28 in NZ and 21 in AS.

Thank you for the reply.

Marilyn Dennison May 16, 2015 at 11:10 AM

How did you decide which date to enroll?
Noreen McAuley May 16, 2015 at 11:37 AM

We wanted to avoid the heat of summer in the Outback. Happy to have had packable down jacket for NZ
David Berkenbilt May 16, 2015 at 12:34 PM

It wold be Springtime down under, with moderate temperature. however, be propared for extremes. in both directions.

William Sherman Mar 12, 2015 at 07:19 PM

Thanks for the information. We are coming from NJ via LA and arriving a day early. Will use the day to recover from the LONG trip.
