Am looking for someone to share a room on this African Safari Adventure. I am an experienced International Traveler. An African Safari is on my Bucket List. None of my girlfriends can go at this time. Anyone interested?
Ann Foster Apr 12, 2011 at 01:38 PM

A safari is on my list as well but none of my friends is interested. Are you still looking? When did you plan to go and are you thinking of the extensions? Ann

I am hoping to take this trip in later Sept or October. Would like to share- my usual travel companions aren't interest and the idea of being in a tent in the bush- by myself- is unnerving. I am an experienced traveler and a trip like this is at the top of my list.

I see so many typos in my previous post and have fixed them: I hope to take this trip in late Sept or October. Would like to share- my usual travel companions aren't interested and the idea of being in a tent in the bush- by myself- is unnerving. I am an experienced international traveler and a trip like this one is at the top of my list. Susan

I am new to Road Scholar as my sister in the UK is unable to continue as travel companion. The Kenya/Tanzania trip is at the top of my list, however, I still work full-time. I am looking at dates in January, February and June 2012. Appreciate Road Scholar schedules trips in the shoulder/off seasons to contain costs, however still trying to ascertain the best months to visit Africa within their schedule. If you have any thoughts, would appreciate hearing from you. Lesley

I did an African safari in Sept. 2010 by myself with EH. Being in my own cottage and tent was a learning experience for me (although expensive). No fears. The area was always patrolled at night by security people, and we were always escorted to our tents after dark, and back to the dining tent in the early morning. We heard the animals at night, but never had any problems. The program was awesome - I highly recommend it. (I did Kenya-Tanzania - #18783)

I am interested in finding information from past participants of this program regarding what clothing works the best and how much to pack.
Harry Jones Jan 28, 2012 at 07:00 PM

While I have not been on this particular itinerary, I have been on safari before as well as similar trips to exotic tropical locales You will do best with good travel gear from an outfit like Ex-Offico or Travelsmith. Get light-weight clothes made of sythetics that will dry over-night. Convertible long pants with zippered pockets. These convert to shorts if you want. Long sleeve shirts with two pockets with zippers or flaps are best. You can always roll up the sleeves but you have the long sleeves for protection against bugs and sun as needed. Travel underwear that can be washed and dries overnight. A good hat like the Tilley Hat (bush style). You need only two sets of safari pants and shirts, three sets of travel underwear, three pairs of socks, one outfit to wear at night (khaki slacks, collared shirt - female equivalent). Bathing suit. Good solid walking shoes. One pair of nicer shoes for night with socks. A windbreaker shell jacket with hood for chilly nights and rain.

Thank you for sharing your experience! Are you coming to Africa in October?
