It is a lifelong dream of mine to visit Rapa Nui. Will be on the February 23, 2015 tour. Interested in comments from previous participants or those traveling on this tour.

I will be on the Jan 26, 2015 trip. I would be interested in hearing from those on previous trips about their experiences. Also would like to connect with anyone else on my trip. I know it's early but I didn't want to miss this trip. Also wanted to get out of Chicago during the winter!

You are in for an amazing trip! The Moai are spectular. Our guide was Elena and she was outstanding. Days started at 8 am breakfast followed by lectures and/or tours. We walked a lot! Take shoes with treads, capris and t-shirts (

(Posted before finishing - this comment section is difficult and I already wrote you 3 times with the same info). ...t-shirts, and a packable rain covering. The only rain we got was when we were coming back from the supermarket. We made a daily trip there to gett wine cuz we would run out every evening. We sat on the room's porch each evening between tours and dinner. We didn't plan ahead enough! Don't forget the sun screen. You don't need bug spray - there are none. The food was delicious especially fish and dessert. Good thing we hiked a lot. The hotel is nice.

Posted before finishine AGAIN! The supermarket is a left out of the hotel, to the corner, walk right and the store is halfway up the block . It's good to know. A few of us sat out on the room's porch every evening between tours and dinner and afterwords. In all, the trip was fantastic and it went by too quickly. Let me know if you have questions. If not, have a wonderful trip!

Hello Elena, are you able to tell me with whom I am rooming? Maybe they are on this network?
Elena Rapu - Group Leader Mar 20, 2014 at 03:52 PM

Sorry for the delay in responding. I just finally got all the info on your group. You actually will get to have your own room. There weren't any other singles in the group that wanted to share, so that's just how it worked out. I look forward to meeting you soon!

Donna Beuttell Mar 10, 2014 at 04:18 PM

Hi Maryann. I am also travelling from DCA but on the 31st. Maybe we'll return together! I am sooooo looking forward to Easter Island!
Maryann Grodin Mar 11, 2014 at 10:09 AM

I am using IAD, but am looking forward to this adventure!

Maryann Grodin Jan 15, 2014 at 09:56 PM

Following Elena's advice- anyone out there who is coming in a day early?
C u all soon.
Madeleine Hervey Feb 26, 2014 at 07:10 PM

Did you arrange your own transportation, or did Road Scholar book you in a day early???
Maryann Grodin Feb 26, 2014 at 08:04 PM

Road scholar did the booking for me to come in the day ahead. Therefore I am counting on them for my transfer . And you? When do you get in?

Maryann Grodin Jan 10, 2014 at 03:56 PM

I plan to arrive in Santiago a day early - on the morning of March 31st. Is anyone arriving then?
I understand we are on our own for transport from the airport to the hotel - any suggestions for shuttles etc?
Elena Rapu - Group Leader Jan 15, 2014 at 09:47 PM

Hi Maryann, I can't give out information about when other people arrive. But you can ask people on this board and see if anyone responds. So on that note, is anyone arriving a day early that would like to meet up with others from the group? You can connect with each other here and share your email addresses to stay in contact. Unfortunately for privacy reasons I'm not able to give any of that personal information out. As for getting to the hotel from the airport, the easiest way is probably by taxi. You can reserve a taxi at one of the kiosks outside of the customs exit. This is the safest way to do it to ensure you get a reputable taxi company. I believe it costs around 18,000 pesos (about 40 USD).

I am also registered for the March 31st program. Any new information?
I will be coming from the Washington, D.C. Area. My 4th trip to SA- looking forward to this adventure.
Elena Rapu - Group Leader Jan 06, 2014 at 01:34 PM

Glad to have you as part of the group. It will be an amazing place to add to your list for South America. I'm looking forward to sharing it with all of you!
