Easy
For people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
Moderate
These programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
Active
For people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately Challenging
For hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
Challenging
Get ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Hello,
On our own, we walked around Sitka the afternoon we arrived. We walked Sitka's main street while touring the Russian buildings;in Juneau we walked from the dock to the museum, in Skagway we walked from the railroad depot to the museum on the main street. Each individual determined how much additional walking they wished to do.
An advantage to a small cruise ship is that they can berth mush closer than the huge cruise ships, and getting on and off takes no more than 5 minutes. No standing in line ever.
Both Sitka and Skagway are tiny communities, only one or two short streets for shopping. not knowing the type of hip injury I cannot make any promises; but if you can walk on & off the ship, there should be no difficulties.

Thanks for your reply. We are both pretty healthy, but my husband has issues with a lot of walking due to an old injury. Would this trip work for him?

On September 17th I left a message which should be helpful. Bottom line - this trip is perfect for your husband. I can't think of a better trip. I have severe limitations and it worked well for me. I also traveled with a lady who broke her back and was just recuperating from that injury and surgery, so this trip is called EASY for a reason.

Is this suitable for a somewhat active couple in mid-70s?

YES!!! I think most of the people on my trip were over 70. Everything is done at a comfortable pace, some days were spent on the boat just looking at spectacular glaciers, etc. It is my favorite of all the trips I have been on.

For those of you who asked whether the trip would be o.k. for a person with a physical limitation, i.e., arthritis, etc., the answer is it is the perfect trip for somebody with some physical limitations. I just got back from this trip yesterday and a few people had aches and pains, one person had a severe back issue and two people had canes, and all of them did very well. It is a spectacular trip.

My daughter and I are considering this trip for 2013. Would love if some of those below wrote reviews of their experiences. My daughter (age48) is very fit and active. I (age 73) am very fit, but have been having some hip problems. Welcome suggestions for both of us. And tell me if you stayed extra days and took any helicopter trips to glaciers. Also, is it worth spending extra money for higher category cabins?
