Just joined the Dec. 10th tour (just in time on the last day to sign up.
Does anyone know if bottled wine and alcohol can be purchased at a market?

Jerry Kramer Oct 01, 2015 at 09:59 AM

I have booked the Cuba Today: People and Society - Havana and the countryside tour leaving on Jan 14. I would like to make plane reservations and am wondering whether a 6:30 PM plane home is late enough to get through customs, immigration etc.

Thanks in advance

Hi! Jerry. I had a 6:20P flight out of Miami to Orlando. Getting through immigration and customs was a breeze. Remarkably, no one in front or back of me whilst I went through. However, there are no guarantees in life, so I can only relay to you my experience. Have a great time in Cuba! Wonderful experience!

Hola Barbara Cochran, I got an email that you posted a comment, but I can't find it here. Anyway, nice to know you are going! I think it's going to be great!

Jessica Cossaboom Sep 27, 2015 at 08:40 AM

Roberto, I noticed I spelled 'met' incorrectly! Please! disregard! Thanks
Roberto Gray Sep 27, 2015 at 11:51 AM

Lol No problema Jessica!

Jessica Cossaboom Sep 27, 2015 at 08:39 AM

Yes! Roberto we meet many Cuban folks, not connected with tourism. They are quite friendly as a whole. The food was mainly made up of rice, beans and veggies. I found that the food was adequate, normally served either very tepid, even cold at times! Don't forget to exchange US dollars for pesos and/or kooks (Cuban money) since 'one' has to tip the restroom people in the public facilities! One kook tip is adequate for the restroom personnel. I was surprised that I only had to exchange $100.00 US for the entire trip. However, I didn't go crazy with alcoholic drinks and souvenirs. So, it's really up to your discretion! I must add that I found Cuba quite clean overall. Happy we've become friends! Any other questions I'll be more than delighted to help you!

Thanks for the feedback and the tips Jessica. I'm happy that we are friends too!

I just returned from my Cuba trip this past Thursday. I must admit the trip was very enlightening! Our Cuban guide was fantastic and so knowledgeable! Our American guide made our trip a very pleasant and enjoyable one! Could not have asked for better! The only sad portion of our trip were seeing all of the stray dogs! Tips were provided by Road Scholar for the housekeeping as well as the restaurant folks. The only tips that I gave were to our bus driver and tour people. Kathy Macari I went alone too and felt very comfortable with our group. I'm sure you'll enjoy the Cuban adventure! Have fun.

Thanks for sharing your experiences Jessica!

You're more than welcome, Roberto. If you have any questions of me, please feel free to ask. If I can help you in any way to make your experience in Cuba enjoyable, I'm more than willing to help out. Enjoy
Roberto Gray Sep 27, 2015 at 07:24 AM

Were you able to meet many Cubans that weren't connected to tourism? How were the hotels and the food?

Kathy Macari Sep 26, 2015 at 11:16 AM

I am going to Cuba October 24 to November 1 alone. Would like to meet others attending this tour online. I am from the Chicagoland area and looking forward to Cuba.
Roberto Gray Sep 26, 2015 at 06:19 PM

I am going on this trip on October 5. I'm really looking forward to it.

Would anyone going on this trip be willing to take a few books to Cuba Libro? I bought a ton of books at our library book sale and would love to hear from a number of volunteers to take a few each in your suitcase. Mailing books to Cuba is very expensive, and if you have room to pack a few of them, the need is great. Please contact me at dmjackson5@comcast.net. Thanks!
Roberto Gray Sep 24, 2015 at 06:52 PM

I could take a few books down.
Dorothy Jackson Sep 24, 2015 at 10:00 PM

Super! Please contact me at the e-mail address above, giving your US Mail address. Thanks!
