Enrolled as a single for the August 25 program (3748) Looking forward to it but it sure seems a long time away.

Sheila Bracken Jan 29, 2016 at 11:01 AM

Just signed up for the August 18 trip and planning on spending a couple of extra days in Vancouver to explore Butchart Gardens. Any suggestions?
Lauren Smith Feb 02, 2016 at 10:57 AM

Hi Sheila! If you’re heading across to Victoria to visit Butchart, you could also visit Craigdorrach Castle, Emily Carr House, or have High Tea at the Empress. If you’re looking more for things to do in Vancouver, there are whale watching tours, the Capilano suspension bridge, Bill Reid Gallery, and the Vancouver Aquarium. If you have a specific area of interest, just let me know and I can make more recommendations. And if you have any additional questions, you can email me at lsmith@routesadventures.ca. Thanks!

Just contacted my mobile phone carrier - T-Mobile, and they said calls from Canada are not very expensive, but the data charges (emails) are horrendous.. Just a reminder to make provisions (as in shut off data incoming while out of the country)..

Judi and I are looking forward to having yet another enjoyable Road Scholar trip with the 8/22/13 group.

Can anyone suggest a way to use wireless services without incurring large roaming fees? We have a New York City based unlocked iPhone and iPad with AT&T. We plan to make phone calls within Canada and from Canada to the US and to utilize data for mapping and gathering information along the way.

Thank you, JIM jim144@earthlink.net

hi i too have at&t and am going to purchase 80 canadian calling minutes for $30 and set up my phone accordingly
Sherry Cimino Aug 14, 2013 at 06:04 PM

WOW - what a great idea.. Never thought about it, but I certainly will now..

I am bringing a AAA map of BC and have done a little beforehand research on restaurants we might need to know for "Dinner on your own". It's easier for me to do this on a computer than on an i pad or i phone.
Ed Prior Dec 22, 2013 at 05:36 PM

I don't know about iPhones, but to use an unlocked phone you could buy a SIM card in Canada. I've used 7-11 phones with good success (see www.speakout7eleven.ca).
Ed Prior Dec 22, 2013 at 05:37 PM

By the way, we're Canadians (Victoria, BC) contemplating making this our first Road Scholar trip, probably in June
