Thank you so much for the input. We are going on the Sept. 13 trip.

Had dinner tonight with cousins who will be visiting the Cinque Terre and returning 2 weeks before we leave on 9/27. Hope to be able to post some tips when I hear from them. Carole

We went to Corniglia but it was just OK. Great views. We took the train from Montarosso to Corniglia. For a few euros you take a shuttle bus up to Corniglia. Could possibly use train ticket on bus. Or you can walk up the 400 steps. We went to Corniglia to do the hike back to Vernatsa. It was worth it to us.

Jane Bacon is absolutely marvelous and the Hotel Lerici is a gem.

Beth Kendrick Aug 22, 2015 at 06:36 PM

I notice we do not see Corniglia. Did any of you take the time to visit there? If so, was it worthwhile?
Donna Callahan Aug 22, 2015 at 06:49 PM

Corniglia is very difficult to get to. Ask your tour director for directions for travel to Corniglia during free time. it's OK if you don't get there since the other 4 villages give you an excellent taste of coastal Italian villages. We took the train to another city; maybe Lucca.

Traveled back from Heathrow in July on United, solo. Met "Nurse Cratchett" at checkin who insisted that I get my carryon into the frame. - Heads up, one and all. Make sure that your carry-on is actually the dimensions that Alitalia gives as the aisles of intra-country flights in Europe do seem narrower than ours!

Anyone on the 9/27 trip, leaving from Philly, be aware that the Pope will be in Philadelphia - at least that morning. They expect 2,000,000 people or so? Plan ahead.

Did I read something about having time to take the rail into Pisa and the necessity of buying a timed ticket to climb the tower?
Gerald Cutler Jul 31, 2015 at 08:48 AM

See my April 9th post on this topic. The person on our trip didn't have to wait long to get the ticket as I recall. But Pisa is on the itinerary. You get there around 3-4 PM. No need for a train or seperate trip. We went to Lucca on the "free" day. Jane is very helpful in arranging side trips.
Carole Kenyon Jul 31, 2015 at 12:35 PM

Thanks, Gerald. I've got the info now.
